Hi there! Am feeding my 13 month old ds for the last time ever this evening! Have eliminated all other feeds except this most cherished one. My hv said it would take about 3 days to wean, so we figured the weekend is best, dh will be doing the bedtime routine for the next while. Anyone like to share their experiences with this... would love to hear any advice.

skerriesmum, I've been waiting to do that final feed for so long it's a bit embarrassing. Dd is 17 months and still having it ... sigh ...

Good luck!!

How do you feel: glad, sad, nostalgic?

Hi Evita! I'm still quite new to posting so it's really exciting to have someone respond... actually I wouldn't have stopped this soon, only I'm going to Paris on my own next week (woo hoo!)and my mil and dh have to be able to settle the lad without me! I have really enjoyed feeding so am a bit sad but it's just another one of those milestones I guess. I can't say I miss the daytime feeds, great to have more freedom when out etc. so I'll survive I'm sure

Hey, have a lovely time in Paris! We went for 6 weeks when Dd was 8 weeks old and it was wonderful.

I think b/feeding for over a year is a great achievement and any time after then is as good as any other to stop. I've just never had quite the incentive to do it with dd and it does help her settle down now she's a maniac toddler!

Thanks Evita! I absolutely love Paris...
Dh is rocking and singing to our boy right now, fingers crossed for not too many screams...!

Please let us know how it works out - my DS2 is only 7 months but I feel like I'll be going in to his school at lunchtimes to feed him!!

Wow, we couldn't believe it, he was fine! Dh just put him into the cot a bit later than usual and there was an instant where he seemed to be thinking, wait a second, something's missing, but then he slept through till 6!!! Happy weekend all :0

skerriesmum, delighted that everything went so well. I breastfed my ds until he was 28 months and the only reason I prolonged so longed was I was so apprehensive about stopping the final night feed. I asked and received lots of advice but could not summon up the courage. Then I wanted to go out for an evening....

I started giving him a cup of milk and followed with his breastfeed for about a week. Then one night I did not offer a breastfeed. When he wanted some extra milk he was quite happy to take it from his cup. He has not asked for a breastfeed since I stopped.

I sincerely hope that your experience is as positive as mine. Best of luck over the next few nights.

Justtheone, when did you start giving milk in a cup? I've just started that and he doesn't seem to like it. Not very thirst quenching I suppose, he prefers water or juice. He eats lots of cheese, yogurts etc so I'm not worried about calcium and fat intake.

It's difficult to remember the exact time. I gave up his early morning breastfeed at 17 months and offered milk in a cup instead. He had been definitely drinking milk from a cup at breastfast time for a few months before that.

It took me quite a while to find sippy cups/bottles that he would use. He only has milk at breakfast time and in the evening and he always has it from his "milk" cup. He is not interested in milk during the day and much prefers water. He is also not a big juice drinker.

Hi, I stopped breastfeeding my daughter the day before her 1st birthday. I had cut out one feed a day from about 9mths and was just down to feeding her just before she went to bed. It was a gradual weaning and in the end she lost interest in me and it was her who decided she didn't need it anymore.
