Food aversion 5 month old!

So my 5 month old lb has had reflux bad since birth but never got the right medication from doctors and it got to a point where he just stopped taking bottles he also has cmpa.
From 12w to 20w old we were at a&e at least twice a week getting sent home every time after being told to persevere things will get better. He started on gaviscon which done nothing but constipate him so bad he would bleed! Then he was on ranitidine which also did nothing. Then he was given domperidone aswell as ranitidine... Still nothing!
20w old we were at hospital after being referred there for his bronchitis where they realised that he actually wasn't taking any bottles at all!
He was started on 20mg omeprazole as well as domperidone which completely soothed the reflux but he still wont eat!
He's been sent home after 2 weeks with an NG tube and we have to wean him after advice from his consultant and dietician due to a 'severe reflux and feeding aversion' But he doesn't like anything near his mouth! Every last drop of milk goes down the tube and if nothing improves it is going to result in a gastrostomy which i really want to avoid!
Anybody got any tips or advice to help?
He's not fed properly for at least 3 months now i just want things to improve or maybe hear from someone who has been through similar situation.

DS2 had severe reflux. He was on Lansoc (lanzoprazole). During the hardest time, I found some help on a NZ site. I am pretty sure you'll find solutions or at least support there www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/. Good luck

Oh dear, poor little thing. This is way, WAY too much medication for anyone, especially a tiny baby! I'm sure you're doing what you think is best, and the doctors/hospital staff will be supplying more and more meds (that's what they get paid to do) but please, you have to stop this medication. All its doing is making him worse, side effect upon side effect. So many newborns have reflux, especially if they are given formula. Maybe he has a dairy intolerance and needs dairy free formula? Please believe me, it's his diet and medication that's causing this. You are going to seriously damage him if you allow him to have any more of this. Take him off the medication, it might cause a reaction for a little while, but then you will see a massive improvement. Try different milks, especially dairy free. Be patient, loving, and trust your own intuition.

I don't agree with mammainlove about the diet. DS2 was EBF, and I had a special diet to follow so as not to increase his reflux. I didn't eat/drink dairy, citrus fruit, tomatoes, poultry/eggs, chocolate and coffee. It didn't make him better, but if I indulged in a Latte, it made him very sick.
My DS had severe projectile vomit so violent , vomit would come through nose and mouth at the same time, apnea, chest and ear infections caused by his vomit entering in the lungs/ears, and Lanzoprazole , which is similar to omeprazole, aided a lot. We started with ranitidine but it was soon clear it wasn't enough.
I had a non-stop crying baby for 8 months.

The OP's DS now associate food with pain and quitting omeprazole would only cause him even more burns in his esophagus . But I would ask about cutting the ranitidine. It tastes so vile, I understand your DS rejecting anything that looks like it.

Did they never offer you lanzoprazole? The success rate is higher (more than double Lansoprazole vs. omeprazole.

Weaning to solid worsened things for us. He would chock on the texture and have horrible acid poos, that smelled so bad I had to change the whole bed more than twice per day, not because the sheets were soiled but for the pungent smell. What worked for us, was pear compote. Cook a pear in tiny pieces and cook it in half a glass of water then mix together.

The problem with NG tube is that it may be very difficult to go back to feeding by mouth. On the special children's heath or special needs boards you'll receive better advice. Maybe ask for your thread to be moved to Health.

I strongly recommend you post on the dedicated reflux website. It is such a relief to speak to persons who understand the hell you're living.

I dont agree either he is only on omeprazole and domperidone now! And i dont see how this medication can make him worse as ive just said its made him a lot better and calmer. Also he is on dairy free milk due to cmpa can you not read? Way to kick me when im already down thanks a lot mammainlove.
And thank you gordonpym everything is 80% better now he takes solids better just not liquids which he has many specialists working to help.

Reflux is quite misunderstood. I had people telling me DS2 was faking it, because he wanted to stay in my arms all the time, and that I should leave him crying to teach him a lesson. The truth is my baby was miserable and in pain and wanted comfort.

The good news is it became a lot better when he reached 9 months. He had been tested for allergies and was on a special diet till he reached 3, but now he is 7 and perfectly fine. Tall, strong and happy. Always happy and smiling and I believe that he cried all the tears his body could produce in the first 8 months of his life. He never ever cries and eats like a horse.
I am glad things are going better for you and your DS and that you have the support that you need and deserve.
