Hello,

I would be so grateful for any advice!!

I'm still breastfeeding my daughter, she is now 7 months old and I have noticed a few symptoms of teething such as red cheeks, rash, chewing a anything she can get hold of!!
I'm concerned because I wa hoping to breastfeed until she's 1 but if teeth start appearing am I going to have to stop?
Is it very painful to breastfeed your baby when she has teeth? Can I carry on?

Hope you can help!! Thanks!

K

For me it was not an issue at all and bfing seems to soothe the pain of teething.

You should be fine Smile

No it's fine. Their bottom teeth are covered by their tongue and top teeth shouldn't be near your nipple if your latch is good. They occasionally get a bit "bite-y" but a firm "no" should put a stop to that. My DD was a prolific teether - got her first at 4 months and had 16 teeth by the time she was a year old. I fed her til she self weaned at 15 months and she only bit me twice when she was 13 months (during the same feed) and being naughty. I told her no and put her on the floor and that put paid to it.

Nope, shouldn't be painful at all if they're latched on properly!

Thanks! I'm really grateful! I was hoping I could carry on but I've had a few comments from people suggesting that I would probably have to stop.
What a relief!! X

No, you really don't have to stop. I had and am having an experience like Jilted above. BFing does seem to soothe the pain though sometimes we have had to give Calpol in order to reduce the pain enough for them to nurse. After that, bfing seemed to be the best medicine.

I will admit that the main difficulty I had with my girls was when they would bite me, I would remove them from the breast and firmly say 'No biting!', then they would giggle.
