Overtiredness = reflux?

Just wondering if this is true for anyone's dc? I am beginning to think it may be why my ds has intermittent reflux...the silent sort, burping up acid, pain, struggling to sleep, waking hourly in the night.

Would welcome opinions on whether this might be right/true for your dc.

My ds 5mo has silent reflux, before he was on medication it really disturbed his sleep and he literally would only nap for 20-30mins which meant he got overtired which in turn made his reflux worse! Very tiring times. However he is now on ranitidine 3 times a day which has been a god send, we prop up his cot one end and also keep him upright when feeding and after for 20mins, I find feeding him in his bouncy chair is better too (paediatrician advised)
I found once he was napping longer say an hour each time he slept so much better at night and will now go 11hrs!
If you think your dc has reflux take him docs they will prob start you on gaviscon but that only worked for about a month with ds, I then had to beg for ranitidine!

haven't got time for a long post but please please get checked for tongue tie, your baby sounds exactly like mine (intermittent reflux and acid, terrible sleeper, writhing and grunting with wind, waking hourly) and she turned out to have undiagnosed posterior tongue tie.

(it's often missed even by people who think they know what to look for, so get checked by someone who is properly trained to spot it)

dd was first diagnosed with silent reflux but I now know that tongue tie can often cause a bit of silent reflux (as they swallow air due to bad latch and this air makes them bring up acid) so think it was really tongue tie not reflux all along.

ok that was quite long actually Grin

Thanks both. Dr reluctantly prescribed ranitidine today ( I cried when she suggested 'feeding less' - an ebf with acid in mouth at 2am?!)
I dont like to give medicine but am at wits end, only got an hours sleep after 11pm last night.
Tongue tie interesting, I know a good bf counsellor so might call on her for help and put that to her. He intermittently slurps when feeding but I think it is caused by the acid, not the other way around....
Bettyboo, so pleased to hear of your 11 hours! I hope it will happen here too!

Yes paediatrician advised me to feed less, something to do with too much milk in tummy only has one way to go.. Up!
I tried it for a week - made no difference whatsoever.
Just make sure your dc's weight is checked regularly so you get the right dosage, also took a few days to kick in with my ds so don't despair.

Yes please do get the BF counsellor to take a look in his mouth for TT (check that she is actually qualified to diagnose it though)

Feeding less for an EBF baby is a nonsense. Feeding smaller amounts more often might help though (so same quantity overall but little and often). But let's face it you can't really control the amount a BF baby eats!
