Am I changing sides too soon?

Me again, sorry.....Flynn is feeding for about 20mins on one side then comes of on his own, I burp him and offer the other breast. However earlier on I fed him for 20mins on one side, burped him and offered him the same breast which he took for another 20 mins and then layed very happily on the rug for half an hour, which he hasnt done before. Although he did just want a top up which I gave him from the other breast and now hes asleep.
Do you think he is getting more of the hind milk by going back on the first breast again or should I offer the second breast???
Ive nearly cracked it, just need these little hiccups ironed out!!!

I am no expert, though I have fed 2 of my DC and if he will go back to the breast he was feeding on I would carry on. I think that way he will get the richer hind milk which should satisfy him more. As I said I dont count myself an expert and hopefully somebody more helpful will offer some better advice. He did lie on the floor very contented so you must have done something right

Hindmilk and foremilk don't need engineering or timing or messing about with at all - the baby and your body sort it out

It doesn't matter what you do, really....as long as you are responding to the baby's apparent requests to feed at the breast, and not deliberately taking him off before he wants to.

I only offered one breast at each feed, very occaisionally I would offer the other if he was obviously still hungry. Are you a new mum? The thing is, it is a learning curve, try one breast only at each feed and see if it works, if not go back to original method. Everything changes all the time, something works great for a while, then it is not so great and you do change things a bit and it's all fine again. Baby can be relied upon to let you know when something does not suit him.

Same here. I only ever feed on one breast at a time, except for feed before bed time (otherwise they get too full). He always seems very satisfied and normally feeds for at least 30 minutes to 40 minutes and goes 4hrs between feeds during the day. But it is just a case of doing what is right for both of you.

Hmmm, my DS2 is an expert breastfeeder now (he's 22 months), and he figured you need to switch back and forth a lot. So 15 minutes on "better" boob, then 5 on "worse", then another 3 on "better" then 3 on "worse". Repeat until your mother gets annoyed and bored and has to go somewhere.

Great thank you. Its not as complicated as I thought then! Glad to know that he is still getting the hindmilk. He doesnt seem to have lost weight and is very alert when hes awake and we are having several yellow poohs!!
I can go to bed a confident woman.
Thanks
JESS
