Hiccups - my 9 day old dd keeps getting hiccups

Has anyone experienced the same? My new dd gets hiccups on a regular basis after feeding and they mean she is fretful and won't settle at all.
I'm not sure if its too much air when she is breastfeeding or that I'm not winding her properly or for long enough. This happens now about twice a day - midwife says put her back on the boob and this does stop the hiccups but then we have to start winding all over again etc... any help gratefully received.

No advice but just to say hiccups in newborns v v v normal. Happened with both of mine loads when they were tiny.

With DD, I found that when she got hiccups, feeding her again seemed to help, and she then seemed better. it seemed as if it was her way of letting me know that there was room for a bit more milk.

ds hiccupped a lot, but then he hiccupped a lot when I was pg with him too.

You could try a bit more winding if it's bothering her. Do you wind between boobs iyswim?

carolina moose - yes I'm winding between boobs, every time she comes off the boob its kinda hard to know if you've got it all up with one burp or a couple of burps. It is worse the more she feeds, she's been feeding on and off solid for most of this afternoon since 1.30pm and has had tons of time on the boob. I put her down and she sleeps for about half an hour then back up. Has anyone tried gripe water? I read somewhere this may help??

ds was like that at that age. It was like I couldn't put him down at all - I felt like a complete zombie by that stage, so you really have my sympathies.

It is hard to know how much wind should come up, so I would keep trying until you can see she's more comfortable.

I don't know if gripe water helps, but I wouldn't be that keen to give it without medical advice to such a young baby.

DD got them all the time until about 6 months.

you cant give gripe water till one month 1 old (although it works),try infacol.
ds gets them at least once a day, feeding him usually works.
