Best non dairy milk to wean 18month old?

After reading about soya milk messing with hormones, cows milk bad in lots of ways, and now rice milk full of arsenic, I don't know what to give my 18month old boy, after and during weaning him from breastmilk! Ideally something full of nutrition (calcium being a priority), sweet&tasty, organic&not full of chemicals! Any advice or success stories appreciated. TIA

Oat or almond milk. Both come with calcium rich options, and flavours

Our consultant told us that soya is fine after 6 months and ds loves alpro 1+.

You can get oat milk too which is nice but the 1+ is more tailored to the nutritional needs of a toddler.

My children have both had oatly, although the younger one has also been able to tolerate soya. The only problem with Oatly is that although it is very palatable, it isn't particularly nutritious. Young children should only have the calcium-fortified one and it will provide approximately the same amount of calcium as cow's milk, but be aware it contains much less fat. You won't be able to use the organic version as these aren't fortified with calcium.

I think almonds are naturally rich in calcium so you may be able to use an organic version of this if you can find it?

mine have all had soya milk - the baby formula to begin with (after bfing til 13-18mo, variously) then on to normal cartons of it by 2yo.

We use oat milk for DD2, and have used it in cooking etc since she was about 9 months.

It does have lower amounts of fat and protein than cow's milk, but I try to compensate in other ways. I went to an allergy information day when DD was newly diagnosed with her allergies and oat milk was the only one I found remotely palatable, so that was what I went with (as she was still bf, I had to give up dairy too, so it made sense we could share whatever milk I got)

Or you could not give any milk at all - my DS1 never drank any sort of milk once he weaned from BF as he just didn't like it. He drinks plenty of water and gets his calcium from various solid foods including dairy. Toddlers don't need a milk drink, though many of them like it and it can be a good nutritious food.

Re: cows milk, is there an allergy or intolerance or do you just not like the sound of it? I'm personally perfectly happy giving mine organic dairy as they don't have any problems with it, it's a decent source of various nutrients (particularly yoghurt is very digestible). A lot of the really scary stuff about cow's milk is from the US, where there's a lot less regulation about giving hormones to cattle etc.

Thanks so much everyone, very useful advice. Much appreciated. I think i might alternate between organic (raw if possible) cows milk, oat&almond milk.x
