Trying to slowly move to formula from ebf and baby won't have it! Any tips?

DS is 12wks ebf & has taken a few bottles of expressed milk. Due to recurrent thrush from 2wks in both him and me (I've other threads relating to this and we've tried everything!! Honest!)
I reluctantly decided to wean him from the breast to reduce ongoing transfer of infection (last resort). I considered exclusively expressing and just thinking about how I'd practically manage it wore me out :( I have a nearly 3yr old DD too...

Have tried warmed aptamil once for past 3 days and he refuses. I mix fed DD from 8wks due to a TT and she would take anything going by anyone so not used to this reluctance!

Although I am weirdly pleased that he won't take the formula it leaves me with a dilemma with the thrush - basically feeding through it (painful) and leaving it unresolved, bar a bloody miracle! (Potions, lotions, drugs, cleaning all done - only the homeopath remains...)

Sorry, I ramble on...any tips for pursuing the formula route? I am thinking try different ones and different feeds?

On a more positive note he has slept through the night for the past 3 nights so have naturally started to drop that feed - hoorah!

Can you try mixing some formula with some EBM? Just a little formula to start with then increasing the amount as he gets used to it?

Watching with interest. Trying to introduce formula to EBF 20 week old. She is just not having it!

Lilac that's a good idea! Worth a try and will give it a go, thanks.
Good luck mistress!

I had to wean DD onto dairy-free formula, smells rank and I wouldn't want to drink it either! So in the end I mixed say 5oz of bm to 1oz of ff. I'd do it for 3 days then move to 6oz/2oz and every 3 days increase/decrease by an oz.

I agree- mix it with bm and slowly decrease the bm and up the ff. this is what I did and now my LO just takes bottles of formula x

Dukestar - has your gp done swabs to confirm thrush (nipple/milk/baby)? There are other infections that mimic thrush and also sometimes baby not latching well can lead to thrush like symptoms.

I haven't seen your other threads so hope I'm not repeating stuff.

Have you spoken to Wendy Jones at the Drugs in Breast milk helpline? She's a pharmacist and bfing counsellor so really knows her onions re. thrush infections (she was the author of the original thrush & bfing guidance about 10y too)

Oops posted too soon!

Have you tried bottle nursing with baby? Getting bottle feeding as close to bfing as possible may help baby become happier with the change in feeding.

Good luck.

We've had success today after loads of wasted bottles of formula. Dd needed to be hungry enough to take the bottle and bingo! I was trying after 2/3 hours; DH waited 4/5 hours and she drank it all.
