Breast Pump Recommendations please...

I go back to work at the end of Feb. Have just dug out my old pump so dh can do the first bottle before he goes back to work and so I can start freezing milk for the childminder.

It's a tommee tippie and I hate it! I remember now why we mix fed DS. Expressing took forever!

So much as we can't afford a new pump I think I'd be better off buying a better pump than forking out for formula.

Suggestions please!

I had medela swing (electric)

V easy to use.

Ardo Calypso. It is THE BOMB. Really efficient (have heard it compared to a hospital grade pump), really quiet, can be easily converted to a double, and not that expensive, think mine was a similar price to the Swing.

I had a Medela Mini Electric before it and the difference is huge. I can easily pump 5oz in a 10/15 minute break in work, including any setting up and putting stuff away, and it doesn't sound like a Harrier jump jet on take off. Also it's closed system so you could pass it on to someone else when you're done, if you want.

Thanks both of you.

I'll presevere for another week, but am watching an Ardo and a Medela on ebay now :-)

I work in a very male dominated environment, so pumping at work is definately going to be a massive consideration.

I originally had a medela swing, which was good, but as I am exclusively expressing, I soon realised that I needed a double pump! So I bought an Ameda Lactaline on eBay for about £45 and it changed my life! Pumping time has more than halved compared to the medela, and the output tends to be greater too. It isn't massively discreet, in terms of it's size, but double pumps rarely are. It is fairly quiet though.

I work in a very male dominated environment and pumping at work has never been an issue - I think they just go "oh yes, she's doing some woman thing in there" (if they think about it at all) and that's been about it. Nobody's ever mentioned it.

Ameda lactaline - brilliant pump!

I've got the medela swing but love my Avent manual pump much more - always get loads with it

thekatsatonthematt · 30/12/2013 20:18

OOh, there is an Ameda Lactaline one being sold in the next town. One to keep an eye on obviously!

Leedy I don't think it will really be an issue. I've just been trying to work out where I'll be and what time to time it.

Another vote for the ameda lactaline here too.

loveolives · 30/12/2013 22:29

I've always used the Medela Swing for my babies and it's excellent.

Another vote for avent manual - more efficient than the two electrics I've used, silent (so no one overhears) and no need for sockets at work.

FrumiousBandersnatch · 31/12/2013 00:12

I have an Avent manual and a medela swing. The Avent is fine but mine isn't silent - it squeaks quite badly! I find the swing much quicker and more efficient, and once you get going it only needs one hand to hold it in place so you can read / eat / drink while you pump.
