Tt cut 10 days ago but still some difficulties...

Just wondering if anyone could help with the following queries:

Dd posterior tt cut after 4 month struggle.
Latch is much better but still confused about two things:

  • dd still regularly finishes feed screaming rather than in milk coma... Is this just her way of telling me she's done or should she be in a 'coma' after each feed??
  • dd still not feeding much in day, but 5 times at night!! Is this normal and do i just have to cope with it for now?

Thanks so much for any help in advance.

Screaming could be discomfort from wind or her way of indicating she is asking for the other side or wants the feed to end (and perhaps you've been encouraging her to stay on).

Some key questions might be - does she then calm down once you move her into a different position (if she was saying she was finished)? Or when you offer the other side (if she was saying she wanted more)? Or after burping?

It's also a key time to keep an eye on weight gain to tell you how things are going. Although not always easy over the holidays!

With regards to the reverse cycling, that certainly can happen at this age. Often happens when they get a bit more distractible during daytime feeds and they take the minimum in the day as they want to get back to the interesting world. Night time has less excitement and they often fall into this reverse-cycling pattern as a result. I'm guessing you've tried to increase calories in the day? Feeding in a distraction-free environment (some people even black out a room)? Or going the other way and offer a nursing necklace and sing some songs to hold her attention during a feed? We wouldn't want to restrict her feeding at night suddenly at this age, but you could try and feed 'the minimum' she'll accept at night to hopefully encourage more calories to go in the next day.

Thanks tambajam - lots of useful suggestions! I will try them and feed back. She does get distracted sometimes now but this usually has her bobbing on and off without the crying!

Bunny I have no answer but my DD is similar age (20 weeks) and we have similar problems. She nearly always finishes a feed screaming, never feeds to sleep because she always ends up uncomfortable, feeds more at night than during the day. I don't know what her problem is, latch is good, already on a high dose of reflux medication and I'm dairy and soya free. I'm at a loss and very frustrated :(

Duende - just comforting to know someone else is going through it too!!

We had three hours last night between 9pm and 5.30am... A particularly bad night for us ??

Going to try ranitidine again since tt was cut...
