it does depend on age. General advice is not to drop more then one feed every three days or you can end up with problems

Also need help with this!

My daughter is almost 9 months. Feeds every 2 and a half hours day AND night at the moment. Would rather starve than take a bottle...

I'm so tired!

Please help me at least to get her to sleep at night without so many feeds? Average feed is 20 - 50 minutes.

Another one with a 9 month old who won't stop constantly feeding!
Mine is on food and water too... would like uninterrupted sleep!!

MigGril · 28/12/2013 21:41

it's totally normal for a 9month old to still need milk at night. You can try cutting down on night feeds but it's a bit young to totally night wean. To cut down you'd need to make sure they where getting plenty milkand some solids during the day, I'd expect 2 meals a day at this age.

The problem is they can be very distracted and easily only take enough milk to satisfy initial hunger and then wake lots at night for more milk. it's call reverse cycling.

You try offering a dream feed at around 10pm, then sending in someone else to settle at next waking. if they go back to sleep then you know they aren't really that hungry. if not then you'll know they really need feeding.

Even when they stop waking for food many young children still need resettling in the middle of the night. Something like 60% of toddlers don't sleep through every night.

CIN3 - was your dd ever checked for a tongue tie. Every. 2.5 hours is very frequent but I'm thinking the length of feed is v long for a 9 mo. Just wondering if there could be an issue there?

CIN3ATON · 28/12/2013 23:30

Yeah, not tongue tie, had her checked 3 times! She was a great nigt sleeper it's just slowly got worse and worse. She used to sleep 7 - 8 hours with no waking.

Could this be a never ending growth spurt? Her first tooth came through just before Christmas, could that still be hurting even though it's already cut? Is night weaning an option this young? Or do I need to power through as it's a phase?

Sorry about all the questions and thank you for your help x

I'm no expert at all but can tell you about my LO! my 9mo has just started sleeping through from dream feed to 7-ish.

He is still ebf but takes about 5-10 mins to finish a feed and is going 4 hours between feeds during the day and longer at night. Teething has been tough but doesn't seem to affect appetite or frequency of feeds

However as everyone says if your LO is happy and gaining weight there might be nothing at all wrong. I think it is quite normal for them to need a feed in the night at this age.

Good luck. It is hard when they seem to be going backwards!!
