being ultra paranoid due to family history of colitis. ds3 is 5 weeks old - i can't remember what is normal for babies' stools. is it normal to be a bit slimy and a bit mucusy? (oh yuk - what a question!).

DS2 had this. THink DS1 did too, can't remember.

If it looks like redcurrant jelly, that's a problem. If it's clear or just like poo-coloured jelly, that's OK.

(WHY does my head contain this knowledge?!)

I asked this a while ago, but no-one (who replied) seemed to think then that it was a problem. Recently found out that it can be common in babies with reflux, and have discovered that DD has silent reflux. If not accompanied by anything else that would make you think this is a problem though, then I wouldn't worry.

Oh, Enid "slimy and snotty poos"

surroundedbyboys · 22/07/2006 16:58

cheers all. no, not redcurrant jelly and dont think reflux. only other symptom is lots of wind.

mmmmm, not green, still very yellow for us. also, no signs of colic or extended bouts of crying.

CADS - hi again. yes, you see, our gastro paed for ds1 said one of the signs of inflammation was mucus in the stool. but ds3 not showing any other symptoms apart from wind and a bit of mucus and slime, and as you can see others seem to get this too. v confusing.

any other description of 'normal' poos much appreciated...
