My DD is 8 days old, and had a tongue tie that was affecting her feeding but that has now been fixed. She seems to be latching on a little better but with one breast she brings her self off and seems to be frustrated/hungry still as if she's not getting anything from it and the other breast still seems really sore and painful. I need to get a manual breast pump to encourage both breasts to produce but dont know which one is the best to get, right now im leaning more towards the Avent manual pump as it seems to have the best reviews but dont wanna spend nearly £40 for one that doesn't work, any recommendations???

Does it have to be a manual one? I found the avent isis utterly useless but know that some other love it.

Are you getting any RL help? Could the hospital loan you a pump?

Seconding JJJ - unless there's a particular reason why you want manual the best thing would be to hire or borrow a hospital grade pump. There should be lots of RL support available but you might have to go looking for it. Ask your MW if you haven't already been discharged from MW care.

Oh and the Avent manual is fine once you get the knack, but I've recently got a medela swing and it's a revelation. It is so much easier and quicker to express.

Avnet manual is fine but takes a bit of time to get how to do it imo. I agree though, I wouldn't particularly want a manual one in the first place, but I would reccomend either that or Medela Harmony manual breast pump.

Sorry what is RL help? Ideally I would like to carry on just breastfeeding but the pain and difficulty of it is really getting me down, having a visit from midwife tomorrow so will ask her advice.

RL = real life. Do ask the MW tomorrow - hopefully there will be lots of bf support available, such as bf counsellors, bf 'cafés', and possibly pump loan / hire if she agrees that it's appropriate.

Huge congrats on your daughter and good luck!
