Breast feeding and teeth

Help, my dd is 17 weeks today and we thought she was teething a couple of weeks ago but hv said it could still take months for teeth to come through. However this morning I have been bitten 4 times and I can see the top of the tooth coming through. It really really hurts, basically my question is do they stop biting!

Yes they do stop biting but sometimes it can take a bit of persuasion.

Kellymom has some good info in teeth and biting Xmas Smile

My baby got teeth at about 5 months and bit me really hard once. I said 'no' really sharply and he looked at me (I rarely spoke sharply to him so I think he noticed the tone), he then tried biting my finger softly, then harder so I said 'no' again. I think he was trying to figure out what the word meant. After that he didn't bite many times, but did still occasionally. I gave up breast feeding about a month later.

Yes, they stop biting.
And Kellymom, as link above, is THE source for possible solutions.

For me, if possible, don't react (yes, I know it hurts, DS1 drew blood), and unlatch baby for a few seconds so they start getting the message that biting = no milk.

I don't suggest half throwing baby across the bed then they bite hard (see above), although it does stop the biting, at also piles on the guilt!

Thanks for your comments, she is refusing to feed off me now, have just given her a bottle of expressed milk! She seemed fine with that. She is soooo cranky today!!

Try her with a teething gel like dentinox before you feed her too.

Have you checked her mouth to see if it is just teeth? Could she have thrush or a sore throat/ear infection?

Bexmathews · 16/12/2013 19:04

Yeah you can see the tooth has just broken through. I will try gel. Am using calgel ATM but that doesn't seem to be helping. Poor little lady she is normally such a happy baby :(

Teething powders (sold in Boots) are much better than gels ime.

Thanks , we tried the powders, it seems now the tooth has poked through it has stopped bothering her. Got my happy hungry baby back. And only one little nip today , result xx
