4 wk old taking ages to settle after feed - help!

I have a 4 wk old who I am trying to breastfeed despite constant pain. She has a slight tongue tie which is being snipped this week. She is a nightmare to feed at night, won't latch, arches away from breast despite being hungry etc. she then takes ages to settle back to sleep after a feed. I will feed her for an (agonising) 45 mins to an hour and then might also give her a bit of formula or expressed milk if I can't take the pain any more. She often wants to just suck I think as she'll often only take a tiny bit from a bottle at the end of a feed. So after an hours feeding she can then take an hour to get backto sleep - she'll fall asleep on me easily enough but if I try to swaddle her and put her down she stirs and I have to start again. Any advice on any of this massively appreciated as am being quite worn down by it!

Hi, mine's 5 weeks, and also takes a while to settle, though our feeding is quicker. I hope your improves after the tt is snipped. Anyway I wanted to say that everyone I know has a similar experience wrt wanting to sleep on you. I just have to wait till she's deeply asleep before transfer, or she'll wake. Perhaps swaddling before she falls asleep would be less disruptive, then cuddle till deeply asleep, and move.

I've decided she's too small to develop bad habits, so am just going with it. Hopefully things will get easier. One thing that's made a massive difference to me is dh doing a feed with ebm around midnight, to give me a chunk of sleep.

My dd is 9 weeks and was a nightmare to settle up to 5 weeks because of bad wind. Colief made a massive difference and we gave a dummy at 6 weeks (night only) which was a lifesaver. Good luck!

My two week old is the same...very windy after feeds and difficult to settle after night feeds. I have found that keeping him upright when feeding and for 20 mins or so after helps a bit, and if he falls asleep on me I wait 20 mins until he is really out of it before I transfer him to his cot. Works most of the time, but sometimes he will still scream his head off!

Am ging to chat to the health visitor today about it as its so draining and I do worry if he might have a bit of reflux.
