Plugged ducts

Ive had the top half of my left breast feeling full and blocked up since Wednesday night and despite spending all day yesterday massaging, hot showering, expressing on all fours etc nothing seems to be shifting it. I'm concerned I'm heading for mastitis though not painful at the moment.

Is it possible that I just need a few more days of continuing all the home remedies? What do I do if they continue not to work? Thanks.

Have you still been offering that side when feeding? I've used a wide tooth comb over my breasts before when I though there was a blockage with success.

Do you have any other signs of mastitis like a temperature or red streaks on your breast?

Yeah, I'm desperately trying her on that side every time. She clears out the bottom half then gets too frustrated or falls asleep!

I tried a hairbrush in the shower as I don't have a comb and it gave me some kind of pressure rash on the skin but no effect.

No temperature or streaks which is good.

Baby currently dangle feeding as I type!

Good that you've got no temperature.

Can you manage to massage your breast whilst its dangling as you feed?

Might be worth looking at Kellymom to see if there are any tips on there that you've not tried. Here's a link:

Really hope the blockage shifts soon for you!

I put a hot water bottle on it which worked for me, plus lots of feeding, expressing and massaging. Went within 2 days.

Can you see a white dot on your nipple? If so this might be a small plug of dried milk, and if you can clear it then you'll clear the blockage. Google directions to remove a milk bleb - you use a sterilised needle to lift the edge of the plug (absolutely not pierce it). I've found that this instantly allows the milk to flow and you can express or feed to clear the backed-up milk.

My DH can often clear a duct that I can't - esp if I am feeding on all fours at the time.....sorry for the mental image!! I have had a few pleb things - I asked my gp re the needle strategy and she was horrified re likely infection and pain...they have always cleared themselves after a firm help fm DH. My GP also suggested Ibruprofen which I think has helped - esp as it can end up tender for a few days when you get the fatty deposits out. Can you try all fours with you facing a diff way for a while then changing - pref with a helping hand to massage the blocked bits/deposits down?? Good luck xx
