Feeding DS powder formula.
He is windy and possetting.
Niagara Falls if not winded quickly enough after feeding!
Is Aptamil liquid smoother than the powder?
I want to put the liquid into the bottle and then warm bottle up in cup of hot water, or use cartons.
Is it more expensive using ready-made?

The ready made stuff is much more expensive. I worked it out as 22p per feed of powder compared to 69p of ready made. Also the big bottles of ready made have to be discarded after 24 hours so you may find some is wasted. I think the powder formula seems more watery but I don't think it's any less smooth. Are you giving your baby small volumes at a time and winding frequently during the feed?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 14/12/2013 06:54

Yes it's more expensive, at that age I used to wind ds after every 30 mls, how often are you winding during feeding him?

Kelly1814 · 14/12/2013 06:58

Ready made is hugely expensive but I think it seems creamier/smoother.

Which bottles are you using? As soon as we switched from avent to dr browns we noticed a HUGE difference, much better feeds, hardly any wind. We feed aptamil too, powder though.

I used the ready made stuff until the small boy was 4 weeks - I now just use powder as I was wasting so much and it's not cheap.... If you can afford it and lazy like me then it's great.

At 5 weeks (yesterday) he has got much better about keeping his feed down. I wind him about 10 mins into a feed as he is a fast drinker and can suck a lot of air when first taking the bottle. Then a big wind after the feed has finished.

What bottles are you using? We're using Tommee tippee closer to nature and I've finally worked out that the valve thing needs to be at the baby's nose and I give the valve a squeeze before starting the feed to make sure the valve is open.

He also has Infacol before each feed and I keep him upright over my shoulder for at least 20 mins after each feed has finished. We seem to have got the hang of it now.

Thanks everyone.
May try comfort milk as its thicker.
Burping him on my lap sitting up.
Using avent natural.
Burping halfway thru a feed.

You don't need comfort milk, it's just heavier on his little tummy for no gain right now.

Just keep winding him, it will get better as he gets bigger.

Orangeychoc · 14/12/2013 19:22

I used ready made 1 litre bottles and found it very easy & convenient

FionasFatFairy · 14/12/2013 19:25

DD2 was BF initially, then moved onto Aptamil. She was always a sicky baby. My boss suggested a comfort formula with less lactose, I transferred her to the Aptamil comfort and the puking stopped immediately.

We still use lactose free milk, she is now 3.

Please try the comfort formula, f your DS reacts lie DD2 did, you'll be amazed.

I suspect your bottles might be the issue. Advent were a horror for my DD, switched to tommee tippee (with speer in middle) and Dr Browns, problem alleviated. dr browns annoyed me though, the lid is vented so you have to place a plastic disc to stop milk spillage under the teat, when your out and about. Tommee tippee have a seal when the lid is on. They both had similar vent inside the bottle to stop air building up in the tum. You buy one bottle and give it a try, might make the world of difference :)

SecretSantaFix · 14/12/2013 19:37

Try a narrow necked bottle. The milk stays in the teat more than in a wide neck one, so they aren't taking in as much air in the feed plus he can sit a bit more upright to feed.

Thanks everyone.
Met my friend today who is a nanny.
She thought ds has mild reflux, based on her experience of looking after more than 30 babies.
She recommended aptamil reflux.
He has had 2 bottles and is more settled.
