Over the last week or so my 7.5 mo has been difficult to feed during the day - he seems hungry but will take only small amounts. But during the night he will wake often and feed for AGES. He's just gone back to sleep (10.50 pm) after feeding for 45 mins, and that's his 3rd wake up already since going to bed at 7ish,

He's started on solids but is really not eating crazily huge amounts so I know he still needs almost as much milk as before, I just need sons advice on getting him to take it during the day. I've no problem with feeding him a bit at night, in fact I fully expect to for quite a while yet, but the balance seems all wrong at the moment.

Advice anyone?

Maybe he isn't hungry when he is offered milk in the day? Could he be thirsty instead? Does he drink much else during the day? My daughter point blank refused milk in the day once she started eating solids. Independant little madam! Try offering before a nap, maybe more inclined to take some milk. If he has had dinner and milk before bed then it could be that he is feeding more for comfort than because he is hungry when he wakes. I was always told she needed a pint of milk a day, not particularly helpful to a breastfeeding mum! Sorry not really much help! X

I'd just offer solids once a day and make sure you do it about an hour after his usual milk feed.

There's some good tips here. Would also suggest taking him swimming, my DC always took a huge feed after, getting him outside in the day, the sunlight helps to reset them apparently, and if you are bfing, try breast compressions.

Thank you both. He's actually got a lot better over the last few days, thank goodness!
