bf and wind- am I doing something wrong?

7 week old, ebf. Weight gain fine. Last week or so developed horrendous trapped wind. Takes so long to properly burp him during and after feeds. Can hear the trapped wind. Gripe water brings up man burps. What am I doing wrong? It must be the latch, but I don't know what has changed. Dread the night feeds- have to wake my husband to help wind the baby which I hate to do on weekdays. Any thoughts?

Is there a bfing support group you can get to Spoonful, think you might need to get him checked for tongue tie. Have a read of the article and see what you think Smile

Does your ds make a clicking noise when feeding? If so he could be taking in a lot of air when feeding. I would also recommend getting someone experienced with breastfeeding to check your latch just in case there is a problem (e.g. a breastfeeding counsellor or a lactation consultant, perhaps not a HV).

Have you changed your diet recently? I only say this because my lo never has wind but if I have a curry then he gets very painful wind - I didn't believe it was the curry so tried it on 4 separate occasions and each time he was in pain!

Wow jingle, so much of that article sounds familiar. I have the number for local bf support so will call them tomorrow. I just find it strange that this only started at 6 weeks. Before that we had no problems. The procedure for getting the tongue tie cut sounds just awful- just picturing my baby's heartbreak face.

Hmm... the only thing I've changed is I am now eating a yogurt every day or 2 to help with constipation, and I'm drinking Horlicks as I'm off caffeine. I might as well cut them out for a while, see if anything changes (aside from the dreaded constipation returning)

I wouldn't change your diet, if you think your baby has an intolerance, its best to get it checked properly. I know 6 months seems ages away but weaning time will be here before you know it and its best to know what you can or can't feed your Lo Smile

If the symptoms in the tt article do sound familiar I really recommend getting it checked. You might not like the thought of it being snipped but it can cause problems with bfing, eating solids, sleep and speech.
