Dd is a week old and feedings going well. She's a very efficient feeder but there's a fair bit of coughing and spluttering as my milk comes out so quick, have tried feeding long down and this works ok. My boobs were quite engorged when my milk came in but yesterday they started to soften up. I'm still making enough milk for her aren't I? She seems happy and settled but with ds I was permanently engorged and they never seemed to soften up s just wanna make that that is ok?
Also I'm trying to offer both boobs sometimes she will take both sometimes not but if she does take both boobs how do I know which one to offer first the next time? I've kinda been going for the one which feels fullest is that ok?
Gotta feed her now but will check back in a bit
Tia

Hiya Tia. Sounds like it's going fine to me. Mine were terribley full for an awfully long time, I would leak pretty much constantly and when she fed from one side milk would just stream out the other. You are lucky it has regulated so quickly! Will make it a much nicer exprience. Once mine did I realised how great breastfeeding can be. As for the side, I spent the first month writing down when she fed and what side, but once gave it up was much more relaxed about it and just went for the fullest. My baby seemed to prefer my right one for some reason so always fed more on that side! I too had a very stong let down which always left her spluttering, it did subside thankfully but if you google it there are some tips, such as to hand express to get that rush out before offering to baby. If you're worried whether your little one is still getting milk just poke your little finger in to break the latch a bit and see if there's milk there. If your baby is happy and not hungry afterwards, and is gaining weight then she is fine. Keep it up, sounds like you're doing great. Best of luck with it all! X

Thanks mrs. That's helpful. She's definitely getting milk but its so different from my experience with ds its worrying me. I don't think I should be really but it's nice to get some reassurance.
