sterilizing dummy?

rosiedays · 08/12/2013 19:56

I'm trying dd (4.5 months ebf) with a dummy after night feed, as she will happily suck for hours.
I've been Sterilizing them every day. Dh thinks I'm barmy.(she puts her toys in her mouth and i don't sterilize them)
Do I need too or is she old enough now not to worry?

Not sure on that one. I'd be tempted to wash it in very hot soapy water but then I am a bit lax.

Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows more Smile

I used to pop it in steriliser later on I'd just wash it then scald it.

I still sterilise because he has residual milk in his mouth and I don't like the idea that the dummy will harbour the same bacteria. It seems a bit different with toys and other items that aren't in his mouth so much of the time and always straight after a feed.

I stick DD's in boiling water every day - she's 2! They've got so many crevices etc they're germ magnets.

I'm sure the instructions said sterilise.

Thanks ladies.
She's only been having it at night and as she's ebf i get the huge microwave thing out every day for 1dummy !!!
Tbh it's not really working. If i kind of hold it in her mouth with my boob she will suck for a while then spit it out (But those10 minst ccan be heavily to my nips.)
If I try to give it and move away it's spat out in disgust immediately. (Usually projectile so i have to then find it)'
Iast night she bf ALL NIGHT! Does comfort sucking cure its self? ??

Erm feel like a bit of a skank judging by your other responses but I used to just give it a rinse under the tap. I'd only sterilise it if it had been dropped on the floor outside (by sticking it in a cup of boiling water then microwave for a minute).

DD unfortunately lost interest in her dummy at about 5 months, preferring to chew it or take it out and inspect it. Night-times were a pain from 6-9 months as she was teething continuously (full set of front nashers now at 10 months) and so would comfort feed every 45 mins to an hour Confused all night.

Got a lot better now though - only 1 or 2 wake ups - and don't have the bother of getting rid of the dummy later. Sorry if that's not particularly helpful for you at the moment though!

I've never bothered sterilizing a dummy - but like yours my ds has never been that interested in it unless overtired.

I do sterilise them every day dd is 10 weeks. Bought some MAM ones and the box doubles as a microwave steriliser.

I boil ours every day or so to sterelize. It's what you do with new ones (the ones I buy anyway)
