39w pregnant and no colostrum?

I'm 39 weeks pg with dc2 and am getting a little bit worried that I'm not leaking any colostrum - trying to hand express eventually gives a tiny drop after a lot of effort, but that's it. With dd I leaked for a few weeks before birth. I breastfed dd for over 2 years, stopped about 5 months ago, so I know my boobs 'work'.... But should I be worried?

I didn't leak with either dcs. Not a drop. I had plenty of milk both times Smile

Just part of the wide range of "normal" afaik.

Gosh, I never leaked at all before I had DS. I then went on to BF for 2+ years.

Don't think it's anything to worry about - loads of women don't leak before birth. Is there a particular reason why you want to express?

ZingSweetPea · 08/12/2013 04:13

it will all happen when baby is born, don't worry about it!

I think your colostrum comes in properly once the placenta is removed, so don't worry about that :)

Never leaked a drop with any of my pgs. Really don't worry.

Thanks. I think I'm just worrying because I leaked quite a bit before having dd, but nothing this time, seems strange that it's different.

Think it just is different with no 2. My two couldn't have been more different. At least this time you probably know where to access information and support, should you need it Smile

Have you read this? I found it useful.

A good friend of mine recently had dc3 and had only stopped bf dc2 a few months before. She too was worried as her boobs didn't feel full, nor was she leaking colostrum as she had with the previous dc's. All turned out fine. Plenty of milk when baby born so don't worry.
Think it's probably related to your boobs being pro's at milk production and don't need to prepare as well! Grin
