Nipple bleeding.

I have an 8 month old who has one tooth that is nearly fully through and a few that are nearly through. The last couple of days she's started to bite a bit. I pump, formula feed and breastfeed (take too long to explain).

Anyway when I pump a few hours after breastfeeding it is really sore and earlier today it started to bleed. I didn't notice until my DM pointed out a bit of blood was on the pump and it was also on my bra.

  1. How do I encourage my DD not to bite?
  2. Is her possibly consuming a bit of my blood a big problem as I'm not sure if I should stop feeding her if there is a risk of me bleeding and
  3. None breastfeeding related sorry but whilst I'm here - DD loves pinching considerably. She's only 8 months so how do I stop her pinching? It's very, very sore. She also scratches.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I've been putting lanolin on it and trying to rest it as much as I can (no bra currently on) to make it less sore, not sure what else I could possibly try?
TiA.

Anyone?
It's so bloody sore excuse the pun I just don't know what would be the best to do.
I want to carry on BFing as long as I can, so advice really really needed. @:D

Watching with interest. Feeding 7month DC3 bloody loads already tonight as she's got a cold who has started to 'bite' me with her gums and it hurts! What should we do to stop it?

I was told if they bite down on you to give their nose a pinch and they will learn by the association not to do it.

Sounds cruel.

  1. As Notonthisplanet says, pinching their nose shut, or pressing them into the breast, will stop the biting. This is particularly useful if they have clamped down! It is a bit rough (although not as rough as biting someone on the nipple). There are some other ideas here.
  2. Having some of your blood will do no harm at all. Your baby may throw the blood back up, so be aware that if she throws up blood, odds are it is your blood.
  3. If they have things to fiddle with, other than you, that can help.

And a bonus one - airing out an injured nipple may not work as well as keeping it moist. So covering it in cream, and then cling film, may help it to heal from the inside out, rather than forming a scab, that will come off the next time you feed.
