green ebm

Last night when expressing I noticed my EBM was a subtle greeny/grey colour - straight from the boob - not stored. I have justy gone to the fridge and it is most definately green/grey blue so have decided not to use it.

I am currently moving to bottles, so I am only expressing to releive discomfort & prevent probs but I was planning to use the milk rather than just pump & dump. Any ideas.

it might be normal, how old is the baby? is often a rather strange colour with a funny hue until you shake it to mix it all up. probably fine, imo as no reason for it to be off if it's been in the fridge.

I doubt it's a problem . my milk used to be greenish sometimes. what have you been eating?

i'm no expert, but from memory, it probably is normal then. it can vary so much from really creamy thro to what you're describing.

My EBM was always a bluey colour - it's pretty normal, I think. It always looked different after it had stood for a while too; I always put it down to the foremilk separating from the hindmilk as my foremilk always seemed much bluer than the hindmilk.

Piffle · 17/07/2006 17:46

mine mostly resembled dirty dishwater until I shook it again...

2plus2plus1 · 17/07/2006 17:47

It is pretty 'watery' so it culd just be more foremilk than hind. Also I didn't express for long as I want to decrease supply. But oes this mean it will be lacking in calories?

This was off colour before it seperated. Its not the first time I've expressed but it has never been this colour before, even when it has seperated

cd it be extra watery because of the heat? your body making more of a "drink" as it were to avoid baby dehydrating?

ebm can be a range of colours. Greenish ebm has been discussed before on MN - try the archives. Some women find vitamin supplements give their breastmilk an odd colour.

Don't worry about the calorie content of it.
It is not worth it....breastmilk is not a uniform homogenous substance and that's how nature makes it!

Thanks,
I had tried the searching because I thought I had seen something on here previously - but didn't find anything (only green poos), I perhaps a bit crap.
Sounds fine, even if it is mostly foremilk - especially in this weather. Will warm it up ofr the next feed.
