Accidentally gave 8MO DD stale BM

DD is EBF/BLW and in the mornings I give her a bottle of expressed milk to play around with whilst I get ready.

Today I did the same and noticed that there seemed to be a powdery like film left at the bottom. I opened it and it smelt horrible! Not entirely sure how it went off considering I only expressed it 2 days ago and it was stored in the fridge Confused

Anyways I think she drank about 2oz and I'm really worried. Am currently BF'ing her to try and dilute it as that's all I could think of doing! Has anyone got any better advice? Or even reassurance that I'm not the worlds most neglectful mother..

If you are sure the bottle was completely clean and your dd seems fine, I don't think you have much to worry about. BM isn't like formula or cows milk and it would be pretty hard to make her unwell with it.

Hopefully someone who knows more will be along soon...Smile

Gosh I've almost done that so many times. Made up a bottle or some porridge then thought, oh that smells a bit ripe! Most of the guidelines say you can keep it 6 days but I think it's more like 2 or 3 before it starts to smell off. However I'm unsure if smelling off means it is off (I just assume so) and if yours was only 2 days old I'm sure it was fine. X

Off milk won't make you ill. It will turn your stomach and the thought of it will make you feel ill, but you won't actually get ill iyswim. And if it was off i doubt she drank much of it. Babies aren't stupid!

If she drank it I'm sure it was fine.

if your ebm seems to go nasty very quickly you may have the "excess lipase" problem. basically too much lipase enzyme in your milk which means the fats break down very quickly. your milk is not "off" in the usual sense, because it's not bacterial growth and there is no danger of the milk making the baby sick. it just smells/tastes nasty. some babies will drink it some won't.
