Hello

I wanted to ask if anyone knows where to hire a wet nurse in Manchester? I'm having trouble producing enough milk, he is 3 weeks early. I'm finding it difficult feeding him formula milk emotionally, are there wet nurse service available?

Thankyou

Hi didn't want to read and run.
Congratulations on your baby.
I'm no expert but hopefully someone will be along soon.
Not sure a wet nurse would be the best way forward if you want to establish breastfeeding. You need to be putting baby to your breast as much as possible to suckle and stimulate your supply. formula is not bad it was designed to help keep babies healthy if there was a problem with breast milk. You can buy expressed breast milk if you really don't want to give formula. It is also donated at some hospitals for prem babies.
There will be lots of posters along who can give you advice about building up your supply.
Also please get some real life support from your lactation nurse. Your midwife or hv can give you the contacts.
Best of luck. X

Are you getting breastfeeding support?

Congratulations on your new Lo Sonia Thanks

Sorry but I also don't know anything about wet nurses. Are you getting any RL help?

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 04/12/2013 08:02

Sorry should have also asked why you think you may not be producing enough milk? Who has suggested the formula top up and why?

FadBook · 04/12/2013 08:08

Ditto the questions above... You need RL support to check latch, positioning, output, weight gain etc. many variables to determine if baby is getting enough milk

There is a Facebook page called - Human Mill for Human Babies (HMFHB) and people post their needs or if they have a supply of milk to give away.

Congrats on your new arrival.

Not usual in UK except for premature infants. It is very unlikely you aren't producing enough, it is more likely to be positioning or frequency etc Ask your midwife or hv for the numbers of a local BF support group , NCT or La Leche League counsellors, or there may eb a BF Café at your local children's centre. Some will have a free phone advice service or can visit you at home if you are not comfortable in a group setting.

Kellymom.com has info about supplementary feeding: where a bottle of milk is hung round your neck and a fine tube takes the milk to the nipple so you can continue to bf, and therefore continue to stimulate the breast, but deliver more milk to the baby.

I have a feeling this might be more accessible in the US though.

Some info here

Are you still around Sonia? How are you getting on? If you are around, keep posting Smile

The details of how to get some bfing support are listed here.

If you are feeling guilty about the formula it might be worth talking through your feelings with a BFC on one of the helpline numbers. Have you considered using a supplemental nursing system (SNS)? I haven't used one but there are some on this board who have. Again a BFC will be able to tell you more about this Smile

Just realised that regaining has already mentioned the SNS Smile
