BED Baby clamping down on nipple

DS is 8 weeks old but for the last few weeks he has been clamping his jaw on my nipple at the end of his feeds. He has no teeth yet but it still hurts. When he does it I have to put my finger in his mouth at the side to unlatch him. How can I kick this habit now before he gets teeth? Why is he doing it??

When he does it, you could pull him in tight to you so that his nose is in your breast -just for a moment until he releases his grip. It's instinctive for them to let go when you do this, and they don't like it, so it encourages them not to repeat. One quite possible cause is that as he's got bigger you've both relaxed with how he is positioned, so that maybe his mouth is more bullseye than top lip just sliding over the nipple with a big yawning wide mouth? You could try tucking him round further away so he has to really stretch. Or visit a group or ring one of the helplines to go through it all with them.

I posted about this a few weeks ago. You'll be glad to know she's largely stopped with no action from me :)

Ah thank you I'll try the blow on the face and the pulling in techniques first as he's too young to understand a loud no. I go to a BF cafe anyway so I'll mention it next time.
