Will 8 month old dd eventually drink formula?

I go back to work soon and dd has been going to her grandparents so she can get used to it (she will be going 3 days a week when I go back to work), she hardly drinks anything while she's there. She will have porridge for breakfast then most of a pouch or most of a tub of homemade dinner but refuses to drink much milk or water while she's with them.

We have tried a doidy cup and 4 different sippy type cups. She will drink a little but will let the rest dribble out of her mouth.

I'm going to ask them to start making her porridge with formula instead of milk as I know this will be better for her in the long run and ask them to give her wetter finger foods with her lunch as well (melon, cucumber etc).

Will this be enough? Will she eventually learn tht there will be no breast milk on these days and up her intake of formula?

Thank you. She bfed this morning before DH took her and again when she got home. She was quite grizzly in the afternoon apparently and I know it will have been because she wanted milk and more sleep.

I'm hoping she will soon learn she doesnt get fed when she's at grandparents so conpensates while she's there.

My 8 month old would not touch a bottle or formula. Acted like i was poisoning her. Took about 3 weeks and a very patient nanny and now she can't get enough.
I think she adapted more easily when it was a stranger.

My youngest DD never had formula from a bottle, ever! Total nightmare. Completely refused. Hopefully yours will be ok, but I am not sure she will understand the days on and off with breast feeding. Not sure how that works. Can you just not go over to formula now there is childcare involved? She is 8 months old, not 8 weeks.

I went back to work at 10 months (so a little older than your dd) and she never had formula. Just food and water in the day, bfs when I was around, mornings, evenings and nights when I was there. Whilst it's harder for other people to settle her without magic milk, apparently she doesn't really look for it unless I'm there. She is thriving.

Can you express maybe, so GPs could offer bm rather than formula? She might be more likely to take that from a bottle than the formula.

I do think she will learn to drink water/ebm/formula eventually when you are not around. Or she might hold out and then want to feed lots in the evening.

I don't see that there's any rationale for deciding to switch completely to formula. Breastfeeding still has benefits at 8 months over formula - plus it's free.

My eldest was like this: I went back to work when he was 10 months and still bf. He was / is a very opinionated boy and would only deign to take a bottle of formula / ebm at bedtime, never in the day. We got around it by making sure he had plenty of fluid-rich food when I was at work, such a fruit purees and porridge / cereal with loads of milk. He was fine and is a giant 7 year old now. One other tip: try making sure any fluids you offer her are really warm: this definitely encouraged my DS as bf babies are used to very warm liquids. Best of luck!

Petit filous and babybel were our friend when I went back to work at 8 months. Dc1 never took a drop of formula...

DS3 now 13 months has spent spent 3 days a week with the nanny since ten months old. Occasionally drinks a couple of ounces of formula from sippy cup but basically survives on food, sips of water and waits fot breast milk when I'm around!

Another one here who worked two days a week from 10months and all they had was food and water during the day and bf's from me before and after work. They were fine.
