This is not smug - I had such a rotten time feeding ds at the start - he was readmitted to hospital for losing weight and put on a drip and formula. But I stuck with it, and he loves bf so much - he lunged at me today with a cry of pleasure and started drinking and it just made me think he's so full of joy, and its wonderful. Just wanted to share. Feel free to wander off and make a cup of tea now.

When it's going well it's fab, usually made even better by some chocolate and a good novel.
Well done to you - and your little one sounds lovely

MissChief · 14/07/2006 10:13

Good for you, know what you mean after night, mare with ds1. it's been lovely 2nd time round. want some choccy with yr tea?

snowleopard · 14/07/2006 10:17

I know, it is so lovely when it goes well (and awful when it doesn't!) - well done you for sticking with it.

(by which I do not mean to sound anti-bottle!)

oranges · 14/07/2006 10:21

ooohh chocolate! Yes please. And he rolled over for the first time today. Thrashed about a while on his front looking confused. I'm not anti-bottle at all - they saved his life - just pleased that I got given another chance to bf correctly.

No not you oranges - just that you do hear some militantly pro-breastfeeding opinions which can upset people who've had to bottlefeed. I was the same as you - DS lost loads of weight and had to have intensive formula feeds, then took to bf.

Enid · 14/07/2006 10:29

yes it is

kiskidee · 14/07/2006 12:19

aaahhh, nice story. dd now 14 months lately found out the breasts are still there when i put my shirt down. she was on one the other morning, popped off that one, found the other kissed it and laughed and then popped back on the first one!

You probably know I think it's lovely too

Glad it's going well for you, Oranges.

dizzybint · 14/07/2006 19:58

i love it too. dd is nearly 8 weeks and i feel so lucky to have had such an easy time of it. i love the look on her face when we settle down for a feed, and the ferocious way she gets stuck in as if i haven't fed her for a week. and then the purring she does when she's fully tanked up. love it.

oranges · 14/07/2006 21:46

Ah, it was my favourite time with DD2. DD1 had been a savage glutton and I couldn't feed her properly and had to give up only 1 week in. But DD2....those magical times in the middle of the night, dim lights cuddly little soft thing making greedy noises. And when she finished just gazing up at me for as long as I gazed back at her. Heaven

SoupDragon · 14/07/2006 22:12

I'll have to wean her sometime PoP It's just that she's my last. Sniff.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2006 22:13

The sheer unadulterated bliss you sense from them when they feed when really hungry. Ahh....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/07/2006 22:22

Maybe you'll have another one that's even secret from you, SD?

moondog · 14/07/2006 22:24

...and don't you feel so darned proud of yourelf, making a baby and then feeding it?

HunkerMunker · 14/07/2006 22:25

Can I just say, in case anyone didn't read my earlier post, that breastfeeding is great.

Never say never SD

NotAnOtter · 14/07/2006 22:32

i hate breastfeeding - but today when ds just sat looking up at me with HUGE brown eyes and mouth just wide over my nipple - no longer feeding just 'so' happy to be there i actually thought - how great this is!! 5 kids on thats a breakthrough!

Rosieglow · 14/07/2006 22:32

Ah yes, bliss is the right word..when Ds's eyes roll back I know she's really blissed out!

tigertum · 14/07/2006 23:07

Totally. I stuggled at the start but I have been given do many moments like that because of BF.

Well done you for sticking with it.
