8 week old has become very fussy/agitated when feeding

This is my first baby, so not altogether sure what is normal and what's not... He's always seemed quite fussy when feeding (he's EBF) i.e. pulling on and off, fidgeting, dozing off then waking up 10mins later for more. Usually we have one, maybe two episodes a day where he seems to get really mad, screaming at the breast, tensing up, thrashing around etc, but the last few days it seems to be happening at every feed. I burp him, put him back; he launches himself at boob like he hasn't eaten for days then almost immediately pulls off screaming. Weight gain has been very good, nappies fine. Could this just be a phase / growth spurt?

I can't be much help I'm afraid but I have a six week old who can be like this sometimes too so arching with interest.
The only thing I've found that helps so far is playing a white noise app while she feeds, it calms her down so she feeds for longer and stops screaming and coming off and on again.

Ah yes, we've not long gone through this - definetly a growth spurt/phase and as everyone else will tell you - it will pass! When they do the rage and anger try swapping to other boob (after winding if that helps).

Try looking through this. Fast letdown was a problem for me, and changing positions helped.

Good luck!

My ds has this, also 8 weeks. I would love to know what it is! I think with us it could be over-tiredness. It's worse when he hasn't slept much in the day and it always happens in the evenings. Hv said maybe slight colic but I tried infacol but it made no difference. Trying to stay calm helps and he eventually nods off.

could be growth spurt, you say you wind him then put him back on. Are you putting him back on the same side?

I think trying switch feeding may help as soon as he comes off at all I'd offer the other side. Do this throughout the whole feed he may take 3,4,5 or more sides doesn't matter, it'll help increase your supply and the flow will be slightly faster for him so may help with the thrashing.

I'm 10 weeks...went thru same. Also feeding hourly. Was growth spurt for my dd. I swear if you watched closely enough you could see her grow!
