What to wear?

I am planning on breast feeding my son to be and I would like to get a couple of things to wear. People have mentioned vest tops with loose tops over the top but I was wondering which vest tops are best? They are not something I ever wear so no idea which ones would suit.

Also low on pennies so a few affordable clothes suggestions would be great Smile

Go to primark - look for the thin spaghetti strap (adjustable) cami vest tops, 2.50 each and come in lots of colours and are a slightly longer length. I have 3 and that is perfect for one to wear, one in wash and one for backup Smile

Definitely agree with Primark. Long, cheap and stretchy - perfect!

Great, I will check out the Primark vests! Any other advice on what to wear?

I usually buy from marks and spencer. They often have 2 for £8 and I think they wear and wash better than primark and they have tons of colours. You need spaghetti straps and I would recommend buying a couple of sizes up so that you can easily pull it down under the bra cup to feed.

H&M also have cheap vests, lots of colours.
Shirts are also good. You can easily place a muslin over your shoulder to cover you up, so anything that allows easy access is fine.

I thought I was the only one who was going to suggest Primarni vests! I have them in lots of colours, just wear them under a cardigan or a jumper and pop one side down. The combination of inner and outer layer makes a wee "window" for baby.

As to size, I always buy smaller for a snug fit, and this was fine for BFing as well. Besides (you might have heard this, or not, but it's true), BFing helped me to lose weight - I dropped 3 dress sizes.

Best of luck!

I have a pack of 2 nursing tops from h&m for £19.99. They are short sleeved with a v neck and an extra piece of material across the chest so you can pop a boob out without lifting up top. got them online as the stores don't always have stock. And also I second primarni vests Grin

I use the new look ones (£2.00). They have lots of colours and I have found them easier than using nursing vests (meaning two lots of clips!)

They are not very long though so I just use longer tops to go over them Smile

Saw your thread title and then realised l've been beaten to it with the primark recommendation. I have 4 vests that are in constant use since mid June and still looking good!
The loose top and vest combo is so easy because it's quick compared to unbuttoning a shirt or unclipping a nursing bra. When I tried a nursing bra I get hot and bothered and baby seems to pick up on it and get more fussy. Also the vest means that my wobbly tummy is always covered up.
It needs to be a top that is already loose because I found my previous staple of fitted t-shirts get stretched out of shape with the first feed and then look crap.

Soupqueen · 27/11/2013 09:24

stuck, surely you still have to wear a nursing bra though? Or, how do you make a normal one work?

BonaDea · 27/11/2013 19:16

You definitely need a nursing bra.

igirisu · 27/11/2013 19:17

I get vests from H&M that come in lots of different colours and if i am wearing a low cut top i just pop the breast out and cover my modesty with a blanket or shawl.

if i am wearing a high neck top i lift up the top and pull the vest down slightly and i am completely covered up that way so i prefer to wear high neck tops now with vests to keep my mum tum hidden! Smile

Peppa33 · 27/11/2013 19:34

I use m&s vests, the ones with lycra are best, and top with cheap gap t-shirts a size above normal. I do vests twosizes above normal to make them really easy to pull down.
And i wear that for nine months till i go back to work! I am sure others are more glam but it works for me. My boobsare huge while i bf, and the rest of me ischanging shape post partum so i dont see the point in spending on clothes i wont wear for long.

StuckOnARollercoaster · 27/11/2013 23:07

Oops yes most people will probably need a proper nursing bra as well.
(I guess I just ended up lucky that I don't leak and even though my boobs have grown since bf, they're not that big so I don't need to wear one)

Got some lovely breastfeeding dresses from jojo maman bebe. Not too pricey and really discreet. They have two colours and I have bought both.
