Has anybody tried this milk and does it work?

have you been prescribed it? it can work well for babies who can't have normal formula, some babies still react to it though and need something with no cow's milk at all, like neocate.

My son has been on Nutramigen 1 LIPIL for the past 3.5 months. Is it the same thing?

It's for severe cows milk allergy so I doubt it contains cows milk. We have been prescribed it by the paediatrician at the hospital and are trying it for the first time today. It just smells and tastes horrible and DD is not that keen. Just wondered if there is anything can add to make it more tasty?

SunShine - Nutramigen does contain cows milk. It's just hydrolised so that the proteins are broken down so much that they don't trigger an allergic reaction.

It does smell horrific and probably tastes the same, however, my DS was put on it at 8 weeks so took to it very well. He has gaviscon in his bottles too so maybe he's just not fussy!

There's nothing you can add to it. Persevere for roughly a week and just remember, she will not starve herself. She may turn up her nose but will take it when she realises that's all that's on offer.

If she's not having any of it after a week, go back and get your GP to change the milk. Aptimal Pepti is more palatable.

Neocate is made with amino acids so doesn't contain any milk. That will be the end result if your DD doesn't take to either of the hydrolised milks or if she still reacts to them.

I'm so confused now! The dr said it didn't contain milk as it is amino acid based and for babies who don't tolerate hydrolysed formula?? She has now had a full bottle without spitting it out so hopefully she will begin to like it!

I don't think Nutramigen AA has cows milk in it at all - it's the other Nutramigen that has the hydrolised proteins from cows milk in it.

You can check this by googling.

ahh so sorry for misinformation!!!

glad to hear she is taking it ok now!

sparkle101 · 26/11/2013 17:44

Dd had this from a week old to a year old. I remember the smell - it was awful!!!! She was fine with it and it saved us a small fortune!

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 26/11/2013 18:38

Ahhh, so your Nutramigen is different to the one my DS has! Guessing AA stands for amino acids...duh. Blush

I didn't know that Nutramigen did an amino acid based formula. The only one I was informed about was Neocate. Sorry for misinformation!

Glad she's taken a bottle well. I hope you see a good improvement, I know how stressful it can be.
