I'm feeling low today, like I'm getting it all wrong. We baby led weaned our little man, he's now 14 months old and never been a big eater but is better at times than others. I'm just worried that he is having too much milk and that's why he doesn't eat great. He feeds in the morning and before bed, and maybe once or twice during the day. He also feeds in the night. Any advice?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong at all. Smile
DD is the same age and still feeds loads. This Kellymom page is helpful on toddler nutrition and says it is normal for them to take the majority of their calories from milk until they are 18 months so you are still on track!

I think it just can feel a bit weird because you see fewer people doing it. Actually, it's normal. I know what you mean though, it makes me doubt myself too. Flowers

You sound like you're doing just fine.

My 12 mo feeds 5 times : first thing, before and after her nap, bedtime, dreamfeed. Although when I am at work she has one 4oz bottle of ebm to replace the two daytime feeds.

The World Health Organisation recommends "Continue frequent, on-demand breastfeeding until 2 years of age or beyond."

BTW if it helps to have company, my LO is 15m and breastfeeding, and I've lost count of the number of times during her life I've worried I'm doing breastfeeding all wrong! :)

My dd is 14 months. She feeds first thing, about a hour later for a few swigs, she will probably ask for it another twice before lunch. I sometimes divert her sometimes i give it.
She will usually have a feed directly after lunch and have a sleep then might ask again two or three times again it depends on what are are doing. If we are out and about she doesn't but if we are at families or in the house she asks. Then she has before bed. Can have another 3-10!!! Feeds overnight 8-8. Never any less than. 3 though.

My son is also 14 months. I'm now at work full time, so no opportunity for daytime feeds, but we're on a big feed at bedtime and then another 1-2 feeds over night, but sometimes more. So probably 3-4 feeds a day. He doesn't have a huge appetite for solids. He can actually eat pretty well when he feels like it, but often he doesn't. And of course I can't help comparing to people talking about three course meals three times a day!

This thread has also made me feel lots better. I was very foolishly reading the What to Expect toddler version and whilst the words were that breastfeeding past 1 year is no longer beneficial, the underlying tone was that "it's harmful and really woman, you ought to stop asap." I know in my head that's not true, but it still makes you doubt you're doing the right thing.

Indeed! Just read that kellymom link. Very reassuring!

DS had milk 3 times a day: first thing, before his nap and before bed. Unless he's ill, teething our otherwise unsettled I distract at other times as I couldn't take continuing on his terms.
