Please help, really worried about one of my breasts.

Having lots of trouble trying to bf whilst also dealing with a toddler. Nights have been awful and last week I decided to ff. was mixing ff and bf but didn't feel happy and nights didn't get any easier so have decided to go back to bf. haven't given any formula for over 48 hours now.

But one of my breasts is tiny now, it feels like it did before I got pregnant. I keep offering it to ds all the time and am now also using a manual pump on it - only getting a tiny amount of milk but it is definitely coming out a bit. Breast remains far smaller than the other one though. Can I fix this, will supply increase if I keep this up?

Really worried I've wrecked my chances of bf by introducing the formula. Wish I could turn back time and not have done it, but I'm getting about 2 hrs sleep a night and thought it was the answer. Sad

Please can anyone give reassurance and advice?

Ds is 16 weeks if that makes a difference.

How much you can express bears little reflection on what a baby can extract also you supply will increase again it will just take time. Some women successfully feed just using one breast the whole time. As your baby gets older you engorge less anyway and generally your breasts are more of a pre-pregnancy size.

Try looking at Kellymom for some more advice/reassurance?

I had trouble in the early months and one side that I had to express exclusively from for a couple of weeks never produced as much milk as the other side. I followed advice on kellymom for boosting supply in one side (things like always offered small side first, expressed after feeds etc) and it limped on! I found it would some days look pretty lopsided and I'd pad my bras out so not to feel self conscious (I'm quite slim and small busted so was a visible difference!) It made milk, just less.

However ds got plenty of milk, I had a bit of a laugh about size difference with friends and I'm still feeding aged 23 months (planning on stopping soon). You haven't wrecked your chances, the other side will compensate when it needs to IME. I think as this was the 3rd baby I was able not to stress to much, I didn't give any formula after day 2, as I know from the previous dc that this instantly wrecked my supply, so I'd say just have faith that your body will provide!

But as for actual advice about cutting out formula this I suppose depends on how many feeds you cut out. It might be a gradual thing to cut out ff again? Maybe see a lactation consultant if the babe seems not to be getting enough? They can give good advice and help you not to panic about supply
