Does anyone else only use Ready Mix?

For various reasons, we've ended up using Ready Mix formula and intend to for at least another couple of months. Is anyone else?

It's difficult to find much info on this as its all about powder formula so I'm looking for perspective on a couple of points:

  • do you make up multiple small bottles (or example, for night feeds)? We're only making one at a time currently but it's a bit of a faff.
  • what do you do about going out? Do you decant from the big bottle or just take a small one and chuck what's not needed?

Thanks loads.

I did for a while when DTs had nutriprem on prescription. The big bottles can stay open in the fridge for 24 hours so just use what you need as you use - a lot less faff than powder. We used small cartons for out and about.

IIRC once its been decanted and is out of the fridge you still need to use it within the hour as with powdered formula.

We have only used ready made and haven't found it much hassle. We take a carton out and discard it if not finished, not that my DS has ever not finished a bottle...

The cow and gate ready mix bottles last in the fridge for 48 hours but, as pp said, once put into feeding bottles you have to use it within an hour.

If I recall correctly, SMA small bottles can be used for 24 hours so you can pour out what you want while out then put the rest in the fridge at home. I could be mistaken because I've only used cow and gate.

We bought a mini fridge so we didn't have to go downstairs in the night. A lot of the reviews were from people having done the same Smile

We used SMA cartons and they could be kept in the fridge open for 24 hours. You could also decant into a bottle and leave for 24 hours. The discarding after an hour thing was after the bottle had been in the baby's mouth - you couldn't use some of the bottle at one feed and then use the rest at the next feed (not that you would anyway!).

We actually loved the cartons; we were delighted that DS's formula was only available that way even though they were brutally expensive.

? used to open the carton and pour it straigthaway into sterilised bottles, then put them in the fridge. Anything not used within 24 hours would get thrown away (although not likely).
For out and about I had a therma bag to take the filled bottles in.
Little cartons for travelling.

We only used the little cartons for dd when I was at work as I was bf the rest of the time and expressing just wasn't enough. She only got them from just under 6 months when I went back to work pt. I think we used about 6 a week if that, she fed more at night when co-sleeping to make up. Couldn't be faffed with the big cartons of powder etc. If she wanted fed, she wanted it now! We used to decant what was needed in bottle, then cup as she got older, and fridged the rest until needed, if not used we threw it out. I found huge wastage on the big bottles of follow on milk and then we just put her on normal milk...
