How much does your LO feed? trying to get some comparisons to see if my baby is normal

Hello, first time mum here looking for some info from voices of experience!
My LO is 6 weeks, exclusively bf, all going well I think after a bit of pain in the first few days then another little burst at ~3 weeks which may have been thrust, a growth spurt, or just one of those things.
She feeds for about 3 hours a day, probably sleeping 11pm-2am, 2.30am-5am, then 5.30am-7.30am, and during the day a mixture of a couple of 2-3 hour sleeping chunks and then the rest 30-60 min dozes, all punctuated by feeds! So through much of the day she feeds on-off with an hour break between feeds, probably for about 10 minutes per feed on average.
So first question is does this sound normal? It feels like she is always feeding! But I guess I do get some 2-3 hour breaks during the day, most days.
Secondly I was wondering about her feeding too much - she is putting on weight quickly (8.12 at birth, 10.3 at 14 days, 12.9 at 30 days) and occasionally vomits up milk, she does this about once or twice a week after feeding for a very long time but she keeps asking for more- sticking her tongue out and hungrily guzzling when I offer the boob, also getting angry if I try taking it away.
And finally for info I normally feed just from one side, waiting till that side has done about 20 -25 mins (it normally feels empty then) and then at the next feed I'll offer the other 'full' boob.
Any opinions, experiences, or advice very welcome. I'm new to all this so am not sure whether I should carry on as I am (my instinct is this feels right, but I have nothing to base my instinct on! My instinct also says she is a bit of an overeater but not to worry at the moment- again ??) or if I'm getting into bad habits and need to direct things a bit differently.
Many thanks in advance!! x

Everything you are doing sounds great. It sounds like you have found your baby's natural rhythm.

I've bf two babies (still bf DS2, who is 8 months). Both were very frequent feeders in the first 4 months or so. DS1 fed for 45 minutes every 45 minutes; DS2 fed for 10-15 minutes every 1.5 hours.

(I know this seems a lot now but my DS2 is now at nursery when I'm at work and can go a long time without a breastfeed...at the weekend with free access to feeding, he only feeds maybe 3 times between 9-6.)

I offer one breast each feed unless the baby is still obviously hungry. This has always worked for me as I have quite quick flow and otherwise tend to get oversupply.

DS2 used to vomit occasionally after feeds, usually when he had miscalculated his hunger/stomach size. That stopped again at about 4 months and he is very rarely sick now. It's not really a problem as far as I am aware unless they seem uncomfortable or miserable.

Anyway, sounds like you are doing a good job!

Hi OP - sounds very similar to my DD - she had a very similar pattern including the sickness. She is now 3 months and often goes four or five hours between feeds, although sometimes still just two. She is also a whopper - 8.12 at birth and now around 16lbs and almost growing out of her 3-6 month clothes (and has the chubbiest thighs you've ever seen!) The sickness has almost completely stopped.

I'm no expert, but it sounds very normal and healthy to me!

Hi ruby and louise, thanks for the replies. It's really good to hear direct from other who have experienced similar patterns.
I'm trying not to be all pfb and obsess over feeding, but equally I want to do the best for my daughter and I don't want to get us into bad habits which will be hell to get out of later on!
I have a feeling that after posting this last night the 6 week growth spurt might be staying as she demanded boob from 10.30pm to 12.30am pretty much non stop and even then only fell asleep when she was exhausted, still requesting more food! My poor boobs. At least I have a pump now so can stimulate supply and express so I can have a break! The 3 week growth spurt was quite challenging...

Sounds completely normal to me. (I'm bfing 2 year old and 3 month old)

My 3 month old still feeds pretty regularly. I'd say 2.5 hours between feeds at a push. I only ever feed from one side at a time and he also used to sometimes feed until he was sick, then ask for more!

Sounds like you've got the hang of bfing and are doing brilliantly. Alot of people don't manage to get to 6 weeks. Smile
