Help! Milk supply dropped after 24hr feeding ban (post surgery)

I had a Fenton's Procedure yesterday to correct my badly healed episiotomy and was told to refrain from BF for 24 hours - not due to the GA, but the opiate painkiller. I used up all my frozen reserves of breast milk over this time and did "Pump and Dump" to relieve my engorged breasts and try and keep my supply going but only got a chance to do this 4-5 times over 24 hours. After 7 months EBF I was under the understanding from my Breastfeeding drop in centre that a day of not breastfeeding here and there and limited time to express, ie. if I'm working, it shouldn't affect my supply. I've just tried to express 2.5hrs after I last fed the baby and nothing but a few drops of milk came out from either breast Sad

Considering how much of my frozen reserved he got through yesterday, he seems to have quite an appetite on him at the moment so I'm worried I won't be producing enough for him. I'm also worried because I have a day at work next week and now I'm worried about how I'm going to replenish my supplies of expressed milk by then as well.

Any tips on getting my supply back up? I am going to try and put him on the breast frequently over the next couple of days that I'm at home recuperating to see if that helps.

You'll be fine. Hope you're feeling better.

Expressing is not a good indication of how much the baby is getting, because babies are much more efficient than pumps.

(I struggle to express anything at all, even with a hospital grade pump, but my baby is still gaining weight).

The best easy of getting your supply back up is to let him feed lots and lots ' - is the perfect excuse to spend the next few days in bed work your baby Grin

Ha ha, thanks. I know that trick all to well! I haven't read a real novel since my baby was born because I need two hands for that. Thank god for the kindle app.

Just plonk child on breast and let him go for it for a whole day... it should bring supply back up soon enough...

I also couldn't feed for a day after an ERPC and it was ok afterwards (although my DD is 22 months so a bit older)
