Does anyone know whether BFC training is transferable?

I'm training as a BFC (well LLL leader) with LLL France and DH's notice to move, potentially overseas, has just been stepped up a notch which probably means there's a posting coming up that they want him for. Does anyone know whether I can a) transfer my training to what is likely to be the UK or the US and b) if I manage to finish it before we move whether it 'counts' there?

I went for LLL even though we don't see 100% eye to eye because they're pretty much the most international organisation for BF support out there. Has anyone transferred their qualifications and skills successfully?

I know a LLL Leader who transferred aboard with her husband and continued to volunteer as an LLL Leader in the new country. So it does happen, surely the group you are training with would be best placed to answer your question ?

LLL France's answer was 'we don't know'. They said I wouldn't be able to continue training with them, but as I'd be switching language too I don't know whether that complicates things? If/when I know at least which country I'll contact LLL there but I really want to know whether I should push on with as much as possible before DC2 arrives in 6 weeks.

If we went to the UK there are loads more groups (and organisations) but I've read the NCT have pretty much a stranglehold and insist that their BFCs are trained by them. I did the ABM mother supporter course so I suppose I could try to do their full training if they have openings but it would annoy me slightly to have to redo it.

I'm involved with the ABM. If you have finished your LLL training, the transfer course to become an ABM BFC (and go on National Breastfeeding Helpline among other things) is pretty straightforward. It's nothing LIKE re-doing the whole course. You do an assessment and a couple of modules depending on how long ago your training was and what your gaps are. If you haven't finished LLLL training, best to find a way to do that in the LLL in the UK or in the US. As the LLL are active in both places, it shouldn't be hard. The LLLL qualification is recognised internationally. You'll just need to find someone willing to take you over.
