Recurrent mastitis - help!

Dd2 is now 13 weeks and breastfeeding has been fine, except I seem to have a problem with a persistent blocked milk duct resulting in mastitis. Am now on antibiotics after the third lot of mastitis. The breast feels a lot better but I can still see a big white blob where the duct was blocked. I have an awful feeling that when I stop the antibiotics the problem will start again. Really, really do not wany to stop bf, has anyone any advice please? Thanks in advance,

Whereabouts is/was the blocked duct?

I'm sure you've done all the "unblocking / not blocking ducts" stuff already, but just in case (and to bump this up for the experts): no underwired bras, no sleeping on your front, lots of hot showers massaging the affected breast towards the nipple followed by nursing if possible, frequent nursing sessions.

I hope an expert will be along in a bit to help out.

sympathies

not sure what you mean about a white blob? Is it a little blocked duct on your nipple?

am no expert but previous advice has included in-shower combing with wide toothed comb toward nipple, massaging while expressing (or while feeding if you have enough hands), and feeding with the baby's nose pointing at blockage (appreciate this may involve peculiar contortions - try lying down!)

Yes, it's a blocked duct actually on the nipple. Thanks for all your replies, have tried massaging the area but the 'blob' is still there. Am hoping it will just go before I finish the antibiotics - last week, as soon as I stopped the ab's it swelled within just hours.

I have had mastitis 10x before I had acupuncture for it. That really helped. It is just the one breast and I have to not stimulate it too much.

kellymom.com has good info on mastitis
