I had to mix feed because I have a huge baby who just wants to eat, eat, eat!! I could not keep him off the boob which makes it difficult, esp when you have another child to care for, not to mention the pain. (latch is fine)

Hes now not keeping his formula down, I've tried expressing and topping him up with breast milk from a bottle to give my boobs a break and this doesn't satisfy him.

He doesn't sit still on my boob, he tries to look around and move while taking my nipple with him! OUCH!

I've rang the midwife, she said changing his formula could upset his stomach, give him more boob, less formula but this is the reason I mixed feed!!! I'm now giving him boob again because hes hungry still and I'll proberly end up spending the rest of the night like this. I'm so fucking fed up I just want to get through a fucking feed without crying HELPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

baby 2 weeks old. on aptimal. I dont want to EBF and right now I'm so upset I cant help my baby I just want to give up altogether !

Well last night wasn't too bad :)
Hes taken to the C&G quite well, still brings up a little, but mainly dribble. I guess it will just take some getting used to!

We've also said if hes still bringing up a lot by Friday well take him to the doctors. Have the HV comming to today, I wonder how she takes the news xD

Thank you for your support everyone! I think I knew all a long I wanted to stop, otherwise I wouldn't even be questioning it!

It's none of the HV business!! :) it's formula not crack. With all the unwanted or mistreated babies in the world if she's worried about little sleeping jr being on formula, well she needs to get a grip!! :)

Glad you had a better night. It really makes a difference just grabbing an extra few hours.

Our two seemed a bit colicky for first three weeks and then it just settled down by itself. Health visitor had said it can just be their little digestive muscles getting stronger so they don't regurgitate so much after then, hope that helps. We were poised to buy the Dr Brown bottles, but it righted itself with my two after 3 weeks.

I,like you was, worried the HV would be all scowling matron but all apart one have actually been realistic to the fact we are looking after our babies well and it's all just about what works for you as a family. The one HV we did have that was precious, well statistics seemed to mean more to her than anything.

Don't worry at all about what anyone other than you thinks here. It really isn't any of their business.

If you are happier then your baby will be happier and more settled.

I soon learned to brush off the health professionals. They are applying government guidelines, but once my decision was made I just told them that my baby would be formula fed and that that really would be that. To be fair, they did stop pressing it onto me. Just the one reluctant midwife, but I didn't see her much and apart from that she was really nice.

Well hes been taking 2oz, I tried him on 3 and he threw up everywhere, again. We took him to the doctors but there not worried, think hes just trying to have too much. Hes fine on 2oz, its just a little harder for him to settle b'cos the greedy bugger wants more!

I guess I thought she'd be funny about it b'cos she didn't seemed to impressed when I told her I was mixed feeding lol. But she was actually really supportive. She said not to feel guilty, I've done 2 weeks which is still good e.g.

still bloody shattered though haha, but feeling much better now.

Glad your feeling better :) your baby is happy , your happy- nothing can be bad about that surely. Now enjoy your beautiful Ds safe in the knowledge that you are doing what's best for you both. If anyone starts on you just nod and smile. :)

He is only a fortnight old. You and he are doing fine. He will soon become able to take more and more, and over the next few weeks some sort of a pattern will start to emerge, I am sure.

Stick with a couple of ounces for the next week or so, then try again at three ounces. If he keeps that down then, then he is ready for the bigger amount. Just up the amounts gradually, in line with what he usually seems able to tolerate/wants.

SleepingWithABrokenHeart · 14/11/2013 08:16

Thanks Giles :)

Were sticking at 2oz atm, hes still hungry after and takes ages to settle but if we give him 3 it comes back up. Oh has said its because hes got a small stomach, which I know.. but when I was bf he was having 2/3 and if I missed a feed 4!! How can he go from being able to keep 4 down and now can't get past 2? Hmm

Meh, hes ok, fed not starving so I'm sure well get there.

It's probably not so much the quantity but the shorter time in which he drinks it.

Kelly1814 · 15/11/2013 07:55

I killed myself trying to BF. cried rivers, felt so guilty that I couldn't do it.

When I decided to switch to formula it was like a fog had been lifted. Suddenly could enjoy my baby, and DH loves being involved. We share the feeding and he often does all the night feeds so I get proper rest.

I wish I'd decided to switch sooner, I feel like I wasted weeks of my baby's life being miserable. Good luck.

Whereabouts are you? There's a really good breastfeeding support group near finsbury park in London (run from the children's centre). I second the poster above who says to take it one day at a time. Little ones love to suck - even when they aren't hungry - I remember mammoth feeding sessions at this age but it gets easier, it really really really does. Good luck to you.
