Temporary alternative to bedtime milk

My 11 month old DD has been diagnosed as having a temporary dairy intolerance brought on by a bout of gastroenteritis. The GP has said she should go without dairy for a few days to allow her gut to recover and then gradually reintroduce. However this means she cannot have her morning and evening feed as usual, which she is not happy about! Is there anything else I can give her in the short term? Can she have soy milk at this age?

If you are breastfeeding, breastfeeding is not dairy.

If you are using formula, then the usual advice these days is to continue using formula, and you might want to check with the HV that the GP has given you appropriate advice.

Soya milk would prob be ok as a short-term temporary measure - did the GP suggest it?

I think I answered a previous thread of yours where I advised its normally advised to continue with milk feeds or try a lactose free milk/colief in the usual milk as gastroenteritis can lead to a temporary lactose intolerance (rather than dairy intolerance).

Nothing about withholding formula. Def worth checking.

Hi tiktok. I stopped breastfeeding at 8 and a half months when DD started refusing - she had had the occasional bottle of formula from 6 months and I think she worked out it was easier to get milk from a bottle than from me!
She is just vomiting up all the formula I give her so I think there would really be no point in persisting with that (I carried on giving it her for 3 days before I saw the GP). I didn't think to ask the GP about suitable alternatives because she seemed to think she would be ok just on solids for a few days - my DD doesn't agree!

Thanks ilove, you did reply to my post in allergies. I looked at the NHS link which talks about continuing feeding with gastro but made no mention of a temp dairy intolerance prompted by gastro, which is what the GP says she has. She is absolutely fine now I've stopped giving her dairy - that's what was still making her sick, not the gastro iykwim. I just need something to tide her over until I can reintroduce dairy.

What about water and a dry biscuit? Might fill her up a bit.

I've been doing water and biscuits but she is unimpressed!

:( I can imagine! My two are dairy intolerant and have calcium enriched oat milk. It's pretty easy on the tummy.
