Injured mouth and won't feed

I managed to drop my 7 month old this morning flat on her face Blush Sad She has a sore lip and I think she has hurt her mouth inside too although nothing obvious. She's hungry but can't feed as it hurts too much. I've dosed her up with calpol and tried but she only manages a few sucks before screaming.

It's been about 7 hours since her last feed which is a long time for her. She's currently asleep but she's obviously hungry. Any suggestions? How long can she go before I need to start to panic?

Thanks

If she's obviously hungry but not able to eat I'd take her to A&E now.

I would get her checked over by a doctor today.

In the meantime could you express some milk (which will also help you) and try to feed her this milk from a cup or bottle as she may find that easier. She is at risk of dehydration if she cannot feed.

We've been to A&E already this morning following the fall and she's been checked over. She is hungry and has tried to feed but is not overly distressed or unwell. She's also 7 months old so I'm happy there's not an immediate risk of dehydration etc.

I need to have a plan for when she wakes though

X- posted with happydaze.

I've never really managed expressing but going to give it a go and then can think about cup/syringe

I'm glad she's ok :)

Given her age, presumably she's weaning. If she can't suck as that action hurts, she may well be able to have some yogurt or porridge or similar. I Actually, you say she took calpol which presumably means she is OK to take things off a spoon. I'd be tempted to stick to really wet, mushy food in case it hurts her to chew. It will also help with ensuring she gets enough liquid.

Breast milk ice lolly? Frozen frube or similar? What about syringing milk in so she only needs to swallow not suck? Hope she feels better soon

Thanks all. She has had some water from a sippy cup so it's the sucking action that's the problem. Tried hand expressing and failed miserably. She's currently eating a yog and will try to sort out formula and/or a pump.

Glad she's drinking, mouths heal quickly so might be ok tomorrow, what about teething gel?
