The one thing I don't like about breastfeeding is...

... the leaking in the early days/weeks.
Often one breast is leaking while ds is drinking on other side, and I don't even notice it until we are both soaked.
And breastpads are useless.

Get the breast shells .... can you still get those? You pop one over the nipple and when you are feeding your baby from one boob the other boob drips quietly into the shell ... it won't take a huge amount but it does help ...

Congrats btw

waterfalls · 07/07/2006 23:24

Oh yes, had forgotten about that, I expressed while dts were in NICU, I would express through the night, and always forgot about the other one leaking because I was half asleep.

Thank you!

Breast shells sound great, just not sure about using them when out and about.

or if you can't feed them immediately, & they cry a bit.. used to set me off every time! I agree too, breast pads are only good for a little dribble, not the gushing I used to get!

LittleCarlos · 07/07/2006 23:24

Although dont do what I did and use the breast shells all the time....like never taking them off...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/07/2006 23:25

Drips ghosty? Mine gushed lol!

Had this first time round Em. Second time round i discovered ChiccoMamma breast pads. They are THE most absorbant pads i have come across.

I often leaked up to 2 floz when b/feeding at first.

emkana · 07/07/2006 23:26

Weird also is how sometimes I will think "ds will be hungry again soon" and then my breasts start to really ache in anticipation.

OP posts:
moondog · 07/07/2006 23:26

I leaked precisely one drop in 3 1/2 years of b/feeding.
Weird eh??

i rather wish i had messed about with those breastshells. I had a friend who could get 6 oz with 'em in 2 feeds.
Expressing was always bloody hard work for me.

I remember taking DS to a birthday party when DD was 4 weeks old. She had been asleep for ages and I was having a lovely time drinking tea and chatting with friends when I looked at my watch, realised that DD would be due a feed soon. Cue tingles, drips and gushes (I did gush too vvv ). DD cried, I stood up and there were too lovely round wet patches on my chest on my black top for everyone to see

Nathanmum · 07/07/2006 23:31

I was at a restaurant... blue shirt...first time out with new baby...

hunkermunker · 07/07/2006 23:32

I found the Boots slimline ones good this time round, Emkana.

Bit of a gusher here too.

It's annoying, isn't it? I still leak sometimes feeding DS2 in the night - he's next to me in bed, I roll over, feed him, then roll back again - always feed from the same side at night, so left side is quite full in the morning (he has a big breakfast lol!).

KristinaM · 07/07/2006 23:34

Jings, Emkana - your baby looks about 6 months old! Not like a new born at all! He has a proper person's face and hair!!! And a smile. we are very jealous of hair ....

....says she, smiling indulgently at bald toothless baby on left boob

Lact8 · 07/07/2006 23:50

The shells are good, just make sure you put them in the right way up

I'm still a bit of a gusher after 7 months. I just use 2 pads at a time now. Or whatever I can get hold of. Bibs are good. As are baby vests. And this morning ds2s discarded pj bottoms came in handy! Ds2 lookd horrified thought, 'No, mummy, nooooooooo!'

hunkermunker · 08/07/2006 00:14

Emkana, look here

tortoise · 08/07/2006 00:16
