Hello my baby is 7 weeks old and struggles with wind. I am bottle feeding him and the doctor has prescribed gaviscon. I have also given him infacol, but nothing seems to work. Is there any formula milk that can be recommended, I'm currently feeding him Aptimil.

I have the same problem plus lots of discomfort and milk reflux and am currently investigating lip and tongue tie as poss cause so could be worth getting checked?

Thank you I will do. I'm seeing my doctor again on Thursday.

There is sone info on tongue tie here.

How much is he struggling with the wind? Have you tried changing his formula? Dr browns anti colic bottles are supposed to help and have you tried winding during the feed as well as after?

If you are seeing the GP again, it might be worth discussing cows milk protein intolerance.

What are the symptoms exactly? If it's reflux, the symptoms are more likely to be vomiting with every feed (although there may not be vomiting if it's silent reflux), fussiness during feeding, only taking small amounts of feed at a time, discomfort and pain after feeding, especially if lying down. Has the Gaviscon helped at all?

If it definitely seems to be wind, I would recommend trying other bottles. Dr Brown, as Julie said or MAM have been recommended.

If it is reflux rather than wind, then the GP could try other medications. Infacol helps with wind, but can make reflux worse.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is going through the same ordeal and can share any ideas or give any advice on how to cope!!!
My baby has had colic/reflux since week 1, he will literally cry every night from 3pm until midnight, I have tried infacol and gripe water which both had no effect whatsoever, was put on dom peridome and ranitidine incase it was reflux but neither had any effect, tried colief but that has made no difference and gaviscon infant just made him hugely constipated which just gave him even more wind, he is 7 weeks now and continues to cry without fail every night from around 3pm till midnight sometimes even till 2am, is anyone going through the same or been through the same as I have gone past the point of losing my sanity!!!

My DD just got out of hospital after being treated for reflux. She's on the two meds now and being fed for ten mins every two hours.
The little and often feeds seem to work but she's still uncomfortable after feeds when she's an hour or so from her next dose of meds.
The worst bits are the discomfort and fussing at the breast because I can't do anymore to help her feel better.
It's utterly soul destroying and for a split second in hospital I went to look at their range of formulas because I thought it was me that was the problem.
Lovely paedi nurse let me know ff babies get reflux too so I just got on with bf.
I have no advise but intend to alternate with breast and expressed milk in a bottle at night just to give me a breather.
I'm just going to ride it out and by some more pjs for myself! Can't make the time to get dressed when there is sleep to catch up on!
Hope your LO gets better soon. Thanks

Op - my ds has silent reflux, our paediatrician advised us to take him off gaviscon immediately and lactulose as the gaviscon was constipating him! Also infacol will make the reflux worse.
The difference between trapped wind and (silent) reflux I would say is I could smell the acid on ds's breath and dummy and he would ch

BettyBoo246 · 21/01/2014 11:45

Sorry stupid phone
He would choke and gag on his milk, break out in hot sweats and his crying was just inconsolable, also when he slept his breathing was cackling (this us the acid getting up into his airways)

BettyBoo246 · 21/01/2014 11:48

And stick with aptimal I wouldn't change formula at this point it could constipated your lo which will only add to your problems
Definitely get your dr to rest for milk allergy and lactose intolerance too though (they don't like to do this so push for it, the prescribed formula if your lo does have an intolerance costs them hundreds)

maybe baba needs something stronger for reflux, my son has it and he was just on gaviscon and that done the trick, there is also an anti-reflux milk by cow and gate x
