Tongue tie snipped but still bad latch?

My baby (4wks tomorrow) had a tongue tie snipped tuesday. She'd been gaining weight but we had various other issues ie pain, thrush, constant (seriously, CONSTANT) feeding etc. When she latched on post-snip it didn't feel miraculously better but she does now tend to gulp milk down - seemingly more efficiently - rather than sucking, conking out from exertion, repeat etc.

But it's still sore for me, she's still making clicking noises, hiccuping, feeding a lot etc. It still feels like she is chewing me and I can't seem to get her bottom lip curled out or her tongue over her gums...

Is this normal? any ideas - is the pain thrush rather than latch related and I've confused the teo? Am going to attend a breastfeeding cafe on monday where they will also assess the tt division. And am trying to encourage her to poke her tongue out. I just thought we might feel some more benefits sooner and am worried I need to retrain the latch or something Hmm

For sure need to retrain the latch. Same situation here. I am disappointed that it's not gotten easier for me, but then my ds seems to find it less exhausting.
Keep going back to the groups (I'm doing two a week) and don't lose hope.

Dd had her posterior tongue tie snipped at 10 weeks and it felt slightly better but not much. She also had a high-arched palate though which continued to make bf painful until she just seemed to "grow into" it at 17 weeks. She's been feeding like a trooper ever since then though and is still going strong at 12.5 months! Keep at it if you can - I'm so glad I kept going even though I came close to quitting because of the pain. Just keep going back to the groups. I found that they had great suggestions for trying to retrain her latch and also with positioning techniques to try to make bf with the palate issue that little bit more comfortable. Good luck!

Sadly my dd who had her tongue tie snipped never leant to latch propery so was always uncomfortable/painful but no longer excrutiating. You do need to take them off every time the latch is wrong and try again, unfortunately when I tried that she just went on nursing strike for 24 hours - she always was and still is a funny pickle about food and change... (she's 11 now def her personality - the trauma when we had to switch to bottles when I returned to work, the trauma of weaning, the trauma of ditching her bottles - and she's not my eldest!!)

It took my ds several days, maybe even a week to adjust his latch after his tt snip so I wouldn't be too disheartened yet. It's still not perfect, but much better than it was.

Oh thanks all - totatola my baby has a v high arched palate too - perhaps that's it. Plus I've just posted about our ongoing thrush problems... sigh...which aren't helping.

It can take a couple of weeks to get much better and relearn latch and your nipples to heal.

However it can also take more than one cut to correct tongue tie as sometimes they don't cut far back enough and sometimes it reforms when healing this can happen very quickly in a could if days or over a longer period if time. Sk a visit to check for any tongue restrictions coupld be helpful.

Cranial sacral osteopathy worked wonders with my daughters latch and getting her tongue closer to covering her gum.

We had to have 4 cuts in total and it was a very painful time for me! But we are still feeding without problems at 14 months. So it can before.

My 2nd took weeks after snip to sort an stop clicking. Was a pain. Very gradual improvements. Google flipple for an awesome technique to get a good deep latch.
Good luck!

I think it took around 2-3 weeks to get a painfree latch after DS has a posterior tongue tie snip at 4 weeks old. Rugby ball hold (think that's the right term?!) worked best for us at that time. Hope it improves soon

We were snipped on a Friday at 3 wks old then went to bf clinic on the Monday and changed positions to a "laid back" or "biological nursing" position, staying home and letting him find his way patiently. After about a week of that he had it sorted enough that we could resume positions more suited to being out and about.

Actually, I think the biggest issue is that she doesn't extend her tongue out to cover her bottom gums. I've been poking my tongue at her loads to try and encourage her to learn she can stick hers out now, post-snip, but it's not yet having any effect.. Will keep trying

Sorry I lost first part of that post - have tried the flipple, thanks! Good tip. And we do laidback nursing as much as possible; will try to be more focused on latch.

We didn't see my ds stick his tongue out till a week or two after the snip :)
