The day before I got 4 oz, yest I got 2 oz and today 5oz!

All done at the same time of day for same amount of time

Why does it vary so much?

Don't know, but I always found the same when I was expressing.

JollyScaryGiant · 17/10/2013 07:19

It can be affected by your mood and by how much the baby fed yesterday.

butterflyexperience · 17/10/2013 09:36

Mood effects? Really?
Why is that?

I'm sure it depends on how much you eat and good fluid intake is essential for lots of milk. (I'm an EEer)

butterflyexperience · 17/10/2013 09:50

I believe I eat enough (prob too much!)

Some days I don't think I drink as much. I have 2 school age dc and am bf twins.

What's ee?

Exclusive expressing

Eating and fluid intake have virtually nothing to do at all with the amount of milk produced for the baby or for expressing :) BIG MYTH alert!!

It is normal for amounts to vary - most women find this.

mrsmartin1984 · 17/10/2013 12:47

The amount I expressed varied wildly. Sometime I'd only get a teaspoon and sometimes 4oz. Load of factors can change things. Like how long it was since your child last feed? And you cannot quantify how much your child has had. Just pump what you can. Some people find that mornings are easiest or after a warm shower. I found the best way to pump more was to tandum feed.

Tiktok is right your eat and fluid intake has little or no effect on your milk production. You body will take what it needs from you whether or not you have consumed it or not. Which is why allot of breastfeeding women can feel incredibly thirty, because it's been used to make breastmilk leaving them dehydrated

butterflyexperience · 18/10/2013 18:18

Confused about the whole doesn't matter what you eat and drink as I've put on sooo much weight since I've been bf ding the twins as I notice I start to feel faint and light headed if I'm not full myself.

Do you think I can still produce a decent enough supply if I cut back in eating myself?

OP posts:
mrsmartin1984 · 18/10/2013 18:27

Yes. There was a photo I saw during a famine of a woman clearly staving holding a really clubby baby. I'm not saying you should stave yourself, that is an extreme circumstance. Your body will put your babies need first.

butterflyexperience · 18/10/2013 20:30

Interesting ...
I've been he'd to believe that if I don't gave any fat on me or I don't eat enough then I won't produce milk

butterfly, who has told you this or where have you read it? It's quite wrong.

Mothers may well feel a little hungrier when they bf, and they should respond to that (you may feel this more, bf twins). Your production of milk will not be affected, but your own well-being may be if you ignore the hunger.

There's plenty of good science on this - mothers normally produce sufficient milk if their baby/babies remove/s milk effectively and frequently enough. Diet does not really play a part in it.

butterflyexperience · 19/10/2013 05:02

From family members, others who bf and personal online stories - women who recommend eating porridge to boost supply and drinking lots of water to increase supply.

I do understand the method to more milk removed the more produced to increase supply

I'm finding so much conflicting information regarding what I should eat and drink

I wish there was an ultimate resource that would tell me what to do exactly to be healthy myself and for me to make the best milk for my twins

I would like to start a low carb way if eating but am so worried about it messing up my supply

Does anyone have experience if this?

OP posts:
tiktok · 19/10/2013 07:47

Low carbs will not mess up your supply.

Drinking loads of extra water is not necessary or beneficial.

Oats are fine but there is no proper evidence they help.

Best thing to do in the face of contradictory advice (and there is loads!) is to go somewhere like kellymom which is consstently good and evidence-based.

butterflyexperience · 19/10/2013 08:35

Thanks

I use kellymom think its very good
