we had a developmental check up today and DD was weighed.
It would appear she has lost quite a lot of weight in the last 4 weeks :( :(
4 weeks ago she was 12.4 lb, today 11.3

all the previous weigh ins were done at a HV clinic, today at our surgery who are confident their scales are calibrated ok.

her weight so far has been
birth: 7.13
5 days: 8.6
10 days: 8.13
3 weeks: 9.06
3 weeks: 10.14
5 weeks: 12.4
9 weeks: 11.3

she was born on the 50th centile, then apparently jumped to the 90th, now dropped down to 50th again.
my GP says she finds it difficult to believe the previous measurements. baby looks well and healthy. She's alert and happy when awake, she naps ok. GP wants to see us again in 2 weeks.

i have posted about her as she can be a bit of a fussy eater, and i'm seeing a private lactation consultant on Saturday.

I have burst into tears when I saw that she has lost weight. Im panicking, I'm tired and full of cold, and I'm scared.

Any words of wisdom?

(She's on omeprazole for reflux and I'm dairy free as she has suspected CMPI)

Mmmm, that does seem odd doesn't it.

I wonder if that 5 week weight was accurate as it would seem that she gained 22oz in 2 weeks?

Don't panic though, if she has lost weight you're on top of it now and can sort things out. Smile

I agree with badger - most likely suspect is inaccurate scales and/or inaccurate weighing and/or recorded inaccurately and/or inaccurate translations from metric to imperial (babies should be weighed in metric, IMO - we are in the 21st century and we've got used to weighing fruit and veg in metric!). It's easy for you to check the translations yourself, if you think it might be that.

Babies don't lose a pound in weight over 4 weeks without being ill, and you'd know if she was ill.

Tiktok I have the measurements in kg I thought lbs were easier for people to interpret. I will post them later.
Her feeds tend to be short (often 7-10 mins every 2-4 hours), she feeds longer at night.
She used to poo once a day, recently she's gone 5 days without, but is having wet nappies and is alert.
I really am worried.

I know most people like imperial, duende, but I wish we had switched to metric because about twice a year I come across a mother who has had the bejabers scared out of her by a mis-translation :(

Honestly, there is research about the variations in results when babies are weighed. When a result looks really odd (a big loss of weight in a healthy baby) it is prob an error somewhere along the line.

Less frequent pooing is normal in a baby beyond newborn, ditto the shorter feeds.

Thanks Tiktok and Badger, you have put me at ease a little bit. I have a LC coming round on Thursday, I want her to check latch and for tongue and lip tie.

If she went from 50th to 90th then to 50th again, and has apparently lost weight while not being ill and feeding regularly, it would seem far more likely that she never went up to the 90th centile, there was an error in weighing and she has just pootled along the 50th the whole time.
