I'm quite happy for this to be an option but wondered if anyone could give me some insight yk prepare if he does want to. He really reduced feeding from about 22 months and it got very painful for me from about 25 weeks pg. however he has tried a few times in the last few weeks and says nice boobie etc. I find it very sore and wondered if this was to be expected or if it maybe thrush?

Hi there, I'm just writing to offer support. I was in a similar situation. Dd stopped bfing at 18 mths, and ds was born 3 months later. I was fully prepared to tandem feed as I didn't want dd to feel I was pushing her away, but I'm pleased to say it didn't even cross her mind to bf once the baby was born.
I have to say I'm soooo glad she doesn't try to bf as I spend 24hrs a day with children on top of me and pulling me that that would be one thing too many.
Does your son take a bottle? If so you could say this is your milk in the bottle and it would still be a treat? Getting a bottle of milk is dd's favourite thing.

Ds is now 9mths and dd still tries to sit on me and hold onto me for every single feed ds has. If she was wanting me to bf her too it would be really hard. Also in retrospect I would have worried about her taking the milk that ds needed, and him not getting enough time to suckle and establish feeding.

One tip I got was to give your toddler a little toy baby and they can copy everything you do with their little toy. I actually didn't do this in the end but it worked wonders with my friend's son, he even put it up his jumper to breast feed it!

I think massive distraction and attention giving should help fill the need he'd otherwise be trying to fill with breast feeding.

Best of luck!!
