I have ds, 11 days old and am ff (started off bf but it didn't work out for us) my question is simply, whats the best way to do it?!? I know you should ideally make up each feed as you go but I can't do that as ds' s feeds are all over the place and its a nightmare trying when he is screaming to be fed! my friend says she does the bottles of water in advance and adds the powder when needed but that wouldn't kill off all the bacteria right? would a flask of hot water on the go be good? hope long does the water stay hot enough for? sorry for so many questions! im just a new mum who hadn't given ff much thought and am anxious to do it right!! 1

Hi,
The link about covers it all, I just wanted to add a personal perspective of what worked for us as at 11 days in I was in a sleep-deprived fog!
I found making bottles up 3 at a time worked for us, cooling them quickly then storing in the coldest part of the fridge (pg 6 of the leaflet) - that way I wasn't having to make up a fresh bottle all the time and DD would get through them roughly every 4-6 hours.
For out and about tbh I use cartons, they are more expensive than powder but I didn't have to worry about either keeping pre-made milk cool or the hot water staying hot enough then having to cool it somehow when baby wanted it! You do waste a lot in the beginning though when they don't drink much.
If you have a thermos flask then the water should stay hot enough for several hours, however you have the problem of trying to cool the bottle down to the right temperature once the formula is made.

exactly what sissy said - good luck! And if money no object, just stick to pre-made cartons!
Remember to sterilise the bottles for the first 6 months (at least) too.

Oh, and discard them after 2 hours.
