9 week old refusing breast in the evening

DD is EBF, 9 weeks. For the past 7 she has been refusing to feed in the evening. It started off as colicky 3-4 hour long screaming, with attempts to feed and to get to sleep, this has now eased off but she still doesn't want to breastfeed in the evening. After her bath I have to rock her to sleep in my arms, leave her for 20 mins or so and then feed. Even then she usually only feeds for 5-10 mins. During the day her feeds are also short, she never feeds for comfort or to sleep. Once she's decided she has had enough, (frequently after only 5 mins) she pulls away and screams if I try and continue.
She is on omeprazole for reflux and I have been diary free for 7 weeks.
She feeds better in the night.
She has also gone from 50th to 98th centile.
It just seems like she doesn't like to breastfeed :(

Any experience of this? Anything I can do? Will it ever pass?

Feeding for 5 minutes isn't a concern, my dd was the same and its within the normal range.

If she's got reflux, has she been checked for tongue tie?

Just realised its you duende Smile. Take it tt isn't an issue...

How are things now?

duende · 15/10/2013 15:03

Hi JJJ :) I have been told she doesn't have a TT. I'm pretty sure she has lip tie but I believe this doesn't affect feeding.

Can they really get enough in 5 mins? If the previous feed was 3-4 hours ago? She's gaining well, so I suppose she must do?

She has now started feeding longer in the night, used to be 10 mins now even 40. Evening feeds still tricky. (As in she needs to sleep first)

I'm no expert but if there is a lip tie there is normally a tongue tie also so maybe worth getting a second opinion?

Agree with Dowager. I'm not trained but think that although its not unheard of to have upper lip tie without tongue tie, it's highly unusual. I'd get it checked out again Smile

Thanks ladies, i will see if i can get a second/ third opinion.

Know how hard it can be but I really do think its worthwhile getting it checked again. There are lots of MNers who have been told emphatically that their Lo hasn't got tt, only to find out later that they have, including me.
